Here's the story; basically my step father has ms and requires care, not available from the government as their income is over the cut off for free help, but the catch 22 is that it's costing more than that income (currently to the tune of 7000gbp per month). So I'm looking at getting an experienced Thai lady carer over on about 50,000bht per month and another one as a house keeper on about 20k per month. I think these are decent wages for a Thai especialy since room and board are included.

I've had a look at the uk gov visa website and it does show a specific "domestic worker" visa. I'm just wonderring if any one has experience of the process and how very difficult or not? They also now have a cap on non eu people I think. Would I be better off looking to eastern Europe maybe? I'd prefer Thais though of it could be done (my wife is Thai; and can find people through personal contacts and recommendations be the best;

Thank you In advance

If you mploy them in England you will probably have to pay them the English minimum wage which is considerably more than what the English pension is but you might be able to receive some government financial help

thanks but if you read the openning post again you'll see the detail of the catch 22.

About being required to pay min wage; it's easy to pay them whatever by deducting costs such as room n board etc to ballance out so what's left over will be equal to the agreed wage.

I thought the UK abolished slavery a few hundred years ago....never ceases to amaze me the audacity of some people, and with 3 million UK nationals unemployed to boot

50 and 20 thousand bht per month is hardly slavery; it's at least double or triple what they would make here and they'll have all living expenses taken care of.

I'd be happy to employ English people if there were any, be alot less hassle, but the fact is mostly no ones prepared to do this kind of work! Out of 15 carers from two differrent agenceys only 3 have been British, 1 of them stole from us the other was lazy as hel_l and always late, the other is great and still works for us; all the othershave been African. The agency which employs them doesn't pay much more than what I'll b paying the Thais but charge us the customer a fortune. Fact is there are loads of jobs available in the uk for carers or cleaners and things but with the benifits system how it is it's barely worth a hard weeks work for an extra 20 or 30 quid, most prefer to sit on their <deleted> so dont b giving me no jip about slavery or pity the uk people.

The cleaner coming over will actualy be a close friend of ours who is well keen, other friends have also vollunteered; your chat is illinformed at best.

It's quite offensive to bandy about a word so evocative as slavery.

Dude you need to see a doctor or maybe a psyc. If you think that 50,000 baht is slavery then your just plain moronic. Also Thai's are hard workers and would put 300% more effort into helping the old dude then would a Brit.

OP I say good on ya and keep trying to do that. My dad lived with me here in Thailand and I had a housekeeper/Maid/Caregiver live in all food etc and paid her 15,000 baht and she was happier then a pig in ...well you know AND she took care of him more then I could have asked for. I loved the old bugger and was proud that I did this for him. He died last year at 84 and I will tell you this housekeeper did all the funeral (burning) arrangements and was with him til his last breath. I say go for it mate.

In case anyone would like to know; to bring domestics from Thailand you need to show that they have worked for you for atleast a year prior to the application ie bank transfers of wages plus contract and that u the aplicant are a regular visitor to Thailand.

Cheers
