Was round at a friends the other day and while the girls were happily chatting away about girlie things he was showing me that Google Earth street level program on his computer.

Probably old news to most but isnt that a great program? I could get right down to street level and look right at the front door of my old house back in UK. So there we were at the computer screen thousands of miles away zipping up and down streets we used to live and I got to thinking how ordinary the houses looked.

It's well established that all Farangs are rich and have or had expensive properties back home. While some expats may well have grand detached properties in their own grounds I would think the majority would be semi detached suburban kind of properties or modest flats or apartments or still living with mum or even council estate type property.

Looking around at the majority of houses built or rented by Farangs here in Thailand they do seem to be rather grand villa properties many with swimming pool and lots of space, so different from the ordinary appearance of your average semi back home.

So as all Farangs are rich and live in grand villas here they would have the same property and life style back home. What a disappointment that must be to a lot of Thai girls.

I Imagine "GI Bride" type scenarios where after WWII when the only thing most European girls knew about America was from the glamorous Hollywood movies and then too late were in for a shock when some discovered their husbands were not really glamorously rich, and they were destined to live in the sticks million miles away from Hollywood or found that their new home was with in-laws in a cramped city apartment.

So those who have taken their girls back to their modest home what was their reaction? Could you feel some disappointment, did they seem to expect something grander were they too polite to say anything or just happy and glad to be with you in Farangland?

Surely you must have learned to estimate a 1 cm loss in radius by now.

But I'm not talking about the nipple. I'm talking about the whole dam_n rack!

Now ain't THAT the truth, Loz. Of course I never was much of a boob man anyway.

In answer to the Op's question I think the different weather and culture would be more of a shock. Material things never impressed me and I doubt if I would choose a woman who was so materialistic that she would be upset. I'd find that out BEFORE I ever made a commitment. But, I'm one of the fortunate ones who DOES own a nice home with a big yard and view.

A 1 cm loss in radius is consistent throughout the arc and duplicated on the proximate knoll

nipple dimension cannot be estimated in Thailand while body armor is in situ

having been deceived more than a few times by the push-em-together and push-em-up bras so popular with Thai women I can truly say a few times I've been pleasantly surprised when everything was just as advertised. Although I'm more of a Butt man than a Boob man, I do like SOMETHING up there. I hate even thinking that I am in bed with some child.:rolleyes:

I still think that most Thai women would rather live in Thailand than live elsewhere in the world. And, they DO have to give up a lot to live far away from their family. As a general rule, Thais are far more family oriented than westerners.

I guess it all depends upon what stories the farang in question has been telling his Thai sweetheart before she gets to see the reality.

Well, the Thai brides SHOULD be underwhelmed, especially in UK or Switzerland.

Tiny houses or apartments that cost millions...

no thanks!

Dont know if she was underwhelmed, but my wife was shocked over how much (In Baht) I can actually get for my medium/small sized (and not even particularly up scale) apartment back home, if I sell it.

I think GuestHouse hit the nail on the head.

Too many foreigners brag about what they have back home.

Combine that with the "I found a better man than you" attitude some women have, and the shocker is certain, when they arrive in "Farangland".

I'll be amazed if she isn't your Ex Missus this time next week...:D

If a farang thinks his girl will be underwhelmed...I hate to imagine how the girl of a Hong Kong guy feels visiting his 400 sq feet 2-bedroom apartment...:o

I'm sure they're impressed by the realizable value, I doubt they are impressed by the fact that the guy can actually own the house and land in his own name and doesn't need to put in her name and sign away all rights to what belongs to him.

Yeah basically an average sized 3 bedroom place where I come from would be the equivalent of 5/6 beds and a swimming pool should you so desire round my way in Khon Kaen.

I wouldn't say my wife was underwhelmed, but I think experiencing it for herself definitely reinforced all that I told her.

I kept telling her, "Just like all Thai women are not bar girls, all foreign men are not rich." And I pointed out that while we make more in terms of dollars or baht, things cost a lot more. So she did "understand" it mentally, but experiencing it is a different matter.

She has a job and saves her own money. So now she really appreciates all that I told her.

While not "rich", she is able to save money for luxuries she could only dream about in Thailand, mostly in the form of handbags.

Exactly what I told to mine
