/Edit: Sorry... I tripped accidentally into the Gay Forum... exit stage left.

I have always tended toward the nurture side of this debate, howevr, it seems as science progresses, more and more evidence is developed to indicate the womb as the formative phase.

As I look back toward the "events" in my life that I used to attribute to causes of being gay, I am struck by the similarity of my thinking with news reporting on the stock market and the "causes" quoted as responsible for market ups an downs. Pure rubbish. Post annecdotal rationale supporting a thesis with no underlying fact.

However, we are a long way from injecting the mother with high levels of testosterone inorder to guarantee a male child who is heterosexual.

Who cares! do we ask if people are born straight? You are what you are how you got there means nothing. Its only a problem because of religion and who cares about that! :o

Speak for yourself mate. :D  :o

Okay, Dave. I think people are born gay. I guess you don't want to express an opinion (merely say that we can speak for ourselves; fine).

Looking back on my childhood, I can't see anything that made me 'gay' because my parents didn't do that. If anything, I looked far more to my father as a role model. Most of the 'things' that these 'nurture theories' talk about aren't gay to begin with. Hiding behind my mother's apron strings? No. Wanted to dress up in female clothes? Never. Talk in a falsetto voice? Never, except as a joke.

Thanks. Good night. :D

Why is this important.. "gayness is born, not made."

Surely if you are gay, then you are gay.. if you're not, then you're not... doesn't matter why ..

javenram: The answer to your question is clearly that it is an issue of "nurture" over "nature".

Sexual orientation is a primal urge or drive preference. The reluctances you speak of is a societal learned response. There is evidence that some humans have an inherent aversion to "things different" from themselves, but if your best friend growing up was gay, I doubt you would have what you call an "inbread reluctance to accept" gays.

Hopefully you will outgrow this "reluctance".

That reminds me of a very funny piece of graffiti, I once saw in Darlinghurst in Sydney

First Line "My Mother Made Me a Lesbian"

Written under by someone else :

"If I buy her the wool, will she make me one also"

Surely if you are gay, then you are gay.. if you're not, then you're not... doesn't matter why ..

Because there are people out there that would like to 'fix/cure' us if at all possible and it's best not to give them any encouragement.

I dont really follow? Is it better (from a gay perspective) to be "born" gay or "become" gay? Do the fix/cure brigade think it would be easier to "cure" if born or made?

I'm with toaster doesn't really matter. Are you born prefering beef to chicken or do you just become that way. I'm a lamb man myself :o

I think the point is that if you are born gay, then it cannot be "fixed" (not counting genetic engineering of course)...

If you can "become" gay, then the thinking is that something can be done to prevent it, or even "fix" it...

This is how I saw it after reading endure's post... maybe I got it wrong..?

Now I would of read it the other way around.

If it's genetic then mabye it can be "fixed" but if its "nurture/choice" then it can't. Personaly I think it may be a bit of both some people are born geneticly "gay" and some just become "gay" for any number of reasons.

For instance I have 3 staff working on the farm, they are all "gay"

Tom and Boo are lesbians, tom is the butch one dresses like a man, acts like a man ect. She is also my mother-in-laws youngest sister, the MIL recons even as a child she was never that "girly" always a bit of a tom...hence the name. Her partner is very feminie and timid, very motherly and caring and has had boyfriend in the past but reading between the lines appers to be a bit intimidated by them.

Jack is 18 and I'm not really sure wether a katoy or iffeminat gay. He's more iffeminate than Tom but can lift 60kg milk churns onto the back of a pick-up on his own. He does dress like a man but likes pretty bows in his hair ect anyway not really sure what jack is dont think he really know either :o

How come some of your cows are not gay - answer that smarty pants.

If its genetic then it should not be species-specific.

(O and don't say, 'Natural Selection has bred out all the queer cows, who don't reproduce' ...because if that was accurate, then there would be no human benders too. Aha, gotcha , wise guy.

Actually had to sell a bull the other week as we reconed it was gay, absalutley no intrest in the feamle cows (some of them are quite pretty as well). If a farm has no bull cows they know when a female is "on heat" as one of the other females will try to "mount" her...can you get more gay? :o

I'm not sure what a 'bull cow ' is -

- but I have seen normal cows trying to mount each other in New Zealand.

Its disgusting.

Sapphic rites.

Strange, because when its human women leg-wrestling etc, I approve.
