BANGKOK (NNT) -- Miss Thailand Universe 2010 Fonthip “Pook Look” Watcharatrakul has won the first place in both the “Miss Photogenic” and the “Best National Costume” awards in the Miss Universe 2010 contest held in the US.

Ms Fonthip won the “Miss Photogenic” award in the vote by worldwide media members via the Internet. She also grabbed the “Best National Costume” award from her costume called “Siam Aiyara”, which was inspired by decorations of elephant, the iconic animal of Thailand.

Meanwhile, the “Miss Congeniality” award went to Australian representative Jesinta Campbell. Mexican contestant Jimena Navarrete was crowned Miss Universe 2010, beating the other four finalists from Jamaica, Australia, Ukraine, and the Philippines.

The beauty pageant this year was held at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the US. The final was broadcast live on Channel 7.

Last year, Miss Thailand Universe 2009 Chutima “Khaimook” Durongdej won the first place in the ‘Miss Photogenic’ award, and the second runner-up in the ‘Best National Costume’ award in the Miss Universe 2009 contest in the Bahamas.

I love the costume, it reflects a more modern Thailand. But, how will the conservative's here in Thailand respond? I remember last year when a famous Thai actress was scolded and gave a tearful public appology for wearing her hair in a "non-traditional" manner during university graduation where she received her diploma from a member of the royal family.

Anyway, this girl has some style.

I wonder what the old hags are going to say about this. They complained she looked too sexy before and now she has rightfully won both of the top awards other than the main title on the internet judging and with the main judges for the these two awards.

She deserves it but the old hags are probably jealous they can't win anything is except a lookalike contest of Helen Thomas.

Yes - agree (on all aspects) - she looks good and the costuming is fabulous as only Thai's can do.

I just love it when the Thai community picks on her and complains that she doesn't represent Thailand for her 'sexy' photos and then.....BAM! She wins the photogenic award in front of the world. Ha ha ha, gotta love it. If the Ministry of Culture officially issued a statement to chastise her, it would've been even BETTER! You go girl!

The media had voiced for their fav girl : Ms Thailand Foonthip. May be they like the way she flaunting her leg ?

Unfortunately, seemed that didn't work so well with those distinguished honorable judges, that why she didn't make the cut, not even the round of 15.

But agree with the best national costume though, it shows Thai heitage clearly which makes us Thai proud.

Credit to the Designer.:clap2:

Yeah I'm surprised they didn't stick their snout in.

I love the government departments. " Do as I say not as I do " must be their motto.

Sorry for straying off topic but when I worked in hospitality in Bangkok the biggest request for out sourced call girls was when the Ministry Of Education held their seminars. They even put the army and police to shame. They weren't too bothered about the length of skirts or hair then.

Am I the only one who thinks she looks, stupid?

Well, I have no objection to her or her costume from the viewpoint of "respectability" (whatever that is) but I do think it looks silly. That sort-of-hat she is wearing is just stupid looking. Yeah, I get the Elephant trunk idea, but it still looks silly to me. And from the point of posing for the camera...what's with the closed eyes look? Is that supposed to be "sultry" or something? She just looks stupid, looking at the camera like that with her eyes closed.

I guess it's good that the Thais are trying something other than the old conservative tried-and-true. But whatever this "Pook" look is supposed to be , I would rename it the "Puke" look.

My point of view: a "hi-so" Thai Bangkok mall-runner trying to hard to be too "trendy-chic". She's a real woman, so dress her like one.

Thai people make up 5% of the Facebook population, but they consume 80% of storage space.

(I made this probably true stat up in my head).

Personally think she looks fantastic tho.

It's just politics. The honorable judges can't vote for someone who's seen as too sexy. Can't really blame them either, they can hardly let their contest turn into a soft porn show, when next year even more "daring" girls come forward. She was punished. In order to keep with the spirit of the contest, they must go for more conservative candidates - looks don't even enter into that equation.

Of course, for me she's still the star and secret winner of this competition, hands down. She's pretty, but more importantly she has the most spunk.

Look at the Mexican winner - boring!!!

Of note is that it seems the rest of the world disagrees with your opinion.

I am one of the old hags who criticized the Thai contestant. - oh!!! I am ever so jealous!!!

I am flying out to Phuket in a few hours, arriving tonight. Thankfully, I am only staying one week.

Care to join me for a drink during my staying? Take a good look at me and perhaps you could give me a few tips on how to win the lookalike contest of Helen Thomas.

Tinkelbell, sweety darling, you are most welcome to join us.... I am not the competitive type..:D

... a new entry to the Helen Thomas lookalike contest!!!

Ima_Farang .... another pageant eaten up by jealousy!!!

Hon, fancy coming to the shortlisting??

I am sure we will win the first prize exequo...No hard feelings, eh?
