I’m currently finding myself in a complicated situation concerning visa and work permit and would like to get some feedback/answers here.

I’m a German being offered an internship at a company (BOI) in Bangkok for 6 months. I already obtained a non-immigrant B (was told ED is wrong), but I’m still waiting to apply for a work permit. I was also told that it is mandatory to get my legalized/certified documents (high school diploma, ...) confirmed at the German embassy for 2000-3000THB/each. I have never heard of this procedure before and would like to know if this is really necessary because all my documents have been legalized as well as translated into English.

The company also informed me that after having received my work permit, I would still have to make visa runs every 90days to obtain a new non-immigrant B Visa. Of course I have to cover the costs. Is this possible? I was pretty sure that as long as you have a Work Permit, you will have a valid Visa.

Any clarification is much appreciated!

I've never had an ED visa, so i cant tell u for sure. I read before that a tourist visa with at least 21days vailidity can be changed to a non-immigrant B. thats all i know.

No visa can be changed inside Thailand expect in the extension of stay process. So you must qualify for that before any change could be made.

OP: Unless the company paperwork and your wage qualifies for one year extension of stay you can only stay 90 days regardless of having a work permit or not. The work permit allows you to work. It does not allow you to stay.
