Looking For A Good Hotel On A Mountain

Featured Replies

Looking for some advice on finding a decent hotel on Thailand which is actually on a high hill/mountain. Nearly everyone which advertises itself as being 'in the mountains' actually turns out to be on or near the valley bottom looking up at the mountains. I want somewhere where I am looking down on the valleys and with excellent far reaching views.

The only place I have found so far is the hotel at the Princess Mother's old Summer Palace in the Doi Tung area near Chiang Rai. However, while the views from the restaurant are good, those from the rest of the hotel are poor, and the general standards of the rooms etc are definitely not good. What I am looking for is a minimum 3 star type hotel where I can curl up with a good book in a squashy armchair in front of a roaring log fire while the wife goes for long walks through the woods. Well, OK, the log fire might be asking too much, but you get the picture.

The nearest equivalent for what I am looking for would be something like one of the better hotels in the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia.

Anyone got any suggestions. Many thanks in advance.

A new hotel that made it into the latest excellent LUXE Chiang Mai Guide (which is really helpful to take with you if you are up in that area). I stayed there in November. Outstanding rooms. Lovely swimming pool. Good restaurant. They even have a huge fireplace to sit by, but only in Winter.

To be frank, if you choose a Hotel on the mountain, or, in between the mountain, you got nothing to do except relaxing and making full use of the Hotel facility. I'd been to this 2 Mountain resort. First is Doi Inthanon. Nothing spectacular to recommend. The second is Suanthipvana Resort http://www.suanthipresort.com/ , all I could say it's fantastic. It's in between of Chiangmai and Chiangrai. So if you do not drive, it's quite hard to access though. Check out my blog and photo stream hope to give you more idea of travelling North. http://sunnyhor.blogspot.com/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/nusaba/ . Enjoy life, Enjoy Thai!

I saw a few hotels / resorts on the way up to Doi Mae Salong. You will find very picturesque wievs from there.

Dont know if or where they advertise, but could be those resorts here: http://www.hotels2th...long-hotels.asp

Thank you very much indeed for all your suggestions, gotlost, KhunOr, sunnyhor and Xonax. All 4 of your suggestions look good and we will definitely try out all of them before too long. Good, that's the next 4 long weekends taken care of!

Thanks again. :jap:
