Emigrating To Thailand

Recommended Posts

but there are jobs for Farangs in Thailand, aren't there?...

Not many...

Seems the majority are Diving or English teachers. Or use Thailand as a "base" and work in O&G, "security" or something internet-based.

Some professionals with specialist skillsets (Law, Accountancy, Banking, IT, SAP, etc) work in BKK as area "heads", consultants or high-up the food chain for large and mid-sized companies. But I would have thought the vast majority of these are permanently based in either Hong Kong or Singapore.

Although I have met a few guys who started their own businesses in these areas. Draughtsmen, architects, structural engineers or whatever.

Or all else fails - bar owner :)

forget it, 99% of falangs who live in Thailand make there money in there own country, they have a earner back home and then come here to spend, keep your money in the UK, 8 months Thailand 4 months UK, if you cant make make money in the UK, well what chance do you have in a country were i guess you can not even read or write the language, my observations since 2002, but as they say, ;up to you; cheers Micky.

Thanks for your contribution Micky, but I wonder if that is true. I have heard of some people who have made it work in Thailand. It probably would help if I came to Thailand with money and then I could maybe start my own business, but there are jobs for Farangs in Thailand, aren't there?...

hi buddy boy, well to start with there is the problems of work visa;s, unless you can get one of them then you will be working illegally, if you could get a job, believe me, make your money in the UK, and come here to spend it, find your Thai girl, go through all the visa bollo*** to get her back to the UK each time you go back for the top up , at least that way your taking your little bit of Thailand back home with you when you need to go. This is a bold statement i know but here goes, 1 guess 90% of falangs loose all the money they came here with chasing pipe dreams, I'm getting boring now i know, make it in the UK, spend it in Thailand, cheers Micky.

He has found his girl already couple of years back and she is working so no traveling around without losing her job. Also i doubt that UK government job will stay if you are 8 months a year off.

Visas and work permits are no problem once you have found a job. So if you manage to secure one you will be ok. Your best bet propably is the embassy. Also try private companies but it is difficult in this economic situation unless you really can do something that bigger MNC's are willing to pay expat money.

Now if your GF is working and propably earning ok salary you do not need that much to support yourself. If your combined income is around 50k to 60k baht a month you live like any other normal middle class thai couple live. Your not getting rich but you manage ok and can even finance a small house and car perhaps.

"Im currently...saving to emigrate to Thailand."

My thoughts: the costs of living in Thailand are pretty reasonable and, if you have to "save up" to move here, you should probably stay where you are.
