Renewing Work Permits

Recommended Posts

A guy at work said that Immigration now ask for copies of transcripts to renew work permits. Not easy if you have a 'bent' degree....

Anyone heard 'owt or is this another one of his stories?

Am I reading that long list correctly? A STUDENT shows transcripts, but there is no requirement for an INSTRUCTOR to show transcripts. Also, this applies to private schools in any event, not to teachers at public schools. Right?

Some Brits say that uni degrees granted before 1995 can't get transcripts. Many farang teachers here have graduation diplomas, but no transcripts. My real transcript has always looked dodgy, even though it's real. Besides, how many officers down at the MoE (let alone at Immigration) can even decipher a university transcript? ECO 203 Princ Econ 3 A ; HIS 103 West Civ 3 B ; MAT 403 Adv Calc 3 P What does all that mean? GPA - not all schools use the same point system for grade point average. The uni where I graduated has changed its name at least twice, its course names countless times. It's unlikely any of the prior staff still work in the registrar's office. There are privacy laws. I attended 10 or 11 universities, including 5 after earning my degree. If I presented transcripts for each (they overlap), it's a mess. I doubt there's any standard format from one school to another.

Granted, if a teacher graduated with a BS in math within the past ten years, they'd hope their transcript clearly lists all the specialty courses such as "Maths 403, Advanced Calculus, 3 credit hours, grade of A."

I suspect nobody's checking transcripts closely for anybody.
