tpthai2
"The six "premium" beaches are Bi Leh, Koh Rok, Samsao and Ao Kha beaches in Krabi, Lidi beach in Satun, and Tai Muang beach in Phangnga, said Worasart Apaipong, PCD's deputy chief." BangTaoBoy
One of my faves to take my 2 1/2 year old to is the northern end of Layan beach. When the tide is just right it leaves a large lagoon no more than a foot deep and completely calm. Great for playing with inflatables and boats etc. When the tide's a bit higher and waves a bit too big, the beach area there is great for collecting stones, shells driftwood etc, it's got that nice natural feel to it. Nice place to picnic as well, there's a lot of Thais there on a sunday but most days it's very quiet and peacefull. You can often be the only people there. Nice google search post................... OP, depends on the season, now we are in surf season so a lot of the beaches that during high season are suitable for kids, now, are not. One poster suggest Ao Yon, it faces away so yes, not a lot of surf but not a lot of clear water due to the lack of water movement. Also, when they find box jellies here, it's in those types of waters. StevenL pipes in with the Nai Harn Lagoon, excellent suggestion. Yannui beach is pretty protected too, as well as Ao Sane which is out past the Puravarna Phuket Yacht Club. Bangtao beach is probably o.k. too, but again, subject to surf season. Come high season all the beaches will be o.k. for your child. Edited September 4, 2010 by grumpyoldman
LeungKen
Nai Yang Beach is also very shallow & safe, though a little choppy at this time of the year if the wind is blowing. Also keep an eye open for jelly-fish where ever you decide as there can be a few around these next few months.
Chainsaw
Laem Ka beach in Rawai is perfect for kids. Lots of shells etc.
jamesie
Look for Tri Trang Beach, south of Patong beach and up and over a small hill. Perfect all year, but magic now [low season ] as it is north facing and well protected from wind and is flat as the pancake, so great for kids Has toilets, a few eateries and NO hawkers , NO JETSKI"S!!! and is the cleanest beach [litterwise] that i have seen here..a few people cleaning up even leaves on the ground, and are real proud of it obviously! Also is surrounded a hundred or so mters out by a floating rope so if you are out of depth [or energy] can grab a hold. The bottom is not so sandy, but a mix of coarse ground corals and stone, is different from the usual sandy beaches , but not unpleasant at all. phuketrichard
northern end of Kamala is not bad but be aware all PHUKET west coast beaches the wind is onshore so there are rip tides and you can experience really strong current now till end of Oct when the winds shift Edited September 5, 2010 by phuketrichard
PhuketBlogger
Our kids like Paradise Beach, also Layan Beach. In high season we head to Cape Panwa, often eat at "the Beach Bar" near the Novotel. Kids love it there and are friends with the owners kids. Have to go at high tide though as its rocky at low tide.
