Night Safari to be opened in November

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's first Night Safari to be opened in November as scheduled, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has confirmed.

The prime minister said that Kenya had promised to send all animals requested by the Thai government to the Nigh Safari in the country's northern Chiang Mai Province in time for its official opening during the forthcoming Loy Krathong Festival.

"The Chiang Mai Night Safari will have an excellent hygienic system to protect all the animals", he affirmed.

The first batch of nine animals arrived at the Chiang Mai Night Safari in Mae Heah District last week.

The animals include two rare-strain giraffe, five zebras and two guars, all were either purchased, or donated by individuals.

The first batch of animals were warmly welcomed in a traditional Lanna ceremony amid a crowd of well-wishers.

They will be in the 'Sawana Safari' section, with students to be a first privileged group to visit the animals soon, free of charge.

When opened, the Chiang Mai Night Safari will have 1,500 animals of about 150 species.

The entrance fees will be Bt200-400 for each visitor.
