Importing Honey?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

i am looking to bring some New Zealand honey through as gifts to my partners parents when going to see them in a few weeks.

Can anyone tell me if Thai Customs will have issues with me bringing through Manuka Honey into the Kingdom, provided it is unopened? Many thanks for your help.

Can't see a problem, we bring yonks of foodstuffs from UK. Has to be in your checked baggage of course, and even so don't think Thai customs would know the (cost) difference between Manuka and ordinary honey, have seen posts here with people looking to buy in Bangkok, as far as I know you can't.

You are bringing New Zealand Honey to Thailand?

Isn't that like taking coal to Newcastle (or a Kiwi might say 'taking possums to NZ'?)

Sorry - someone had to say it

To answer your other question - if it's checked in - no one will check. We have brought all sorts of foodstuffs in check in and carry on. Never a problem. (Until a bottle broke once!)

Manuka honey. Not available in LOS. Used also as a medical treatment for it's anti-bacterial properties.

No problem! Just make sure it is sealed. If a Customs Officer does stop you, there is

1.) the 2000 gr limit for Personal Use

2.) a Free Trade Agreement between NZ and TH and Duty for Honey is 0%.

Further advise from my side would end in sharing the honey with me. Just kidding.
