Hi,

I had a few questions about the ED Visa process:

1. What is the correct size for the ED Visa photo? I see many references on the internet to 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm, and then also 4 cm x 6 cm. And when I printed out the actual Visa Application Form it says 3.5 x 4.5 cm, but then when I printed out the Application for Change of Visa, it says 4 x 6 cm.

2. When applying for the ED Visa, do I need to fill out a separate Visa Application Form, or would I just give them the school's paperwork and passport photos?

3. Do I need to show evidence of financial capability? I see this is required for the Tourist visa, but it's not clear to me for the ED Visa.

4. Do I need to show a an onward/return ticket? I'll be staying a year and don't really have this yet.

Thanks.

Regarding your questions 3 and 4. I came here on a one year Ed. visa, I had a one way ticket, no questions were asked. I was not asked to show any amount of money, as to how I would support myself, but did have a few grand in my pocked just in case. About the photo I think it is the smaller size, and you can download a visa form from the Embassy and fill it out, I think that it is required for any type of visa, you just write Ed. Visa on it.

1. Visa is from MFA and smaller than required for Immigration forms. Immigration is 4x6cm or 2 1/4" but anything close is normally accepted.

2. You always have to fill out a form for a visa - Consulate will have available.

3. That will be up to the Consulate (and Immigration could also ask but seldom does). For any non immigrant visa it is 20,000 baht for single traveler.

4. That will be up to the Consulate. Most will not require.

I was on a 90 day double entry visa when I applied for my ED visa. The school I used for my ED visa advertizes on this site. They need a week to get all the paper work together. Its a stack of 8 pages of official looking doc's, written in Thai. I was required to make a border run to Laos.If you need to take the border run, I can hook you up with the van company I used. The school will give you four sets of the Doc's. One set is used on the border run. Within 90 days you will need to report to immigration with one of your stacks of Doc's, and then pay 1,900bt and you will get a new 90 day visa. Repeat this until all Doc's are gone. The Thai school has just started advertising 10 year ED-VISA. Check with them on info.

A 10 year Ed Visa..? Crazy. I'd always- and wrongly I guess- thought there was a 3 year limit. Or does it involve changing what you are studying- I know one girl who has jumped from studying Thai to studying Russian so she can continue her Ed Visa. Who's doing the ten year visa?

No, it is not limited to 3 years. You can study for longer, but believe it depends on the school and how many levels they teach.

Wow, that sounds like a good school. I wish I had done some more investigating initially. I will make the border run to Laos and have hooked up with thaivisaservice. Claudio says all I need to bring is the passport copies and photo. Items 3 and 4 not needed. Whew. As for the passport photos, the photo shop suggested the larger size, and said if they refuse it I can just cut around the borders to make it fit the right dimensions.
