Pheu Thai MP Confirms that Yongyuth Will Come Back as Party Leader

Guess he'll just have to try and leave this circus 5 times.

What an entertaining bunch of clowns they are.

They really need to replace that revolving door in front of their office with an automated sliding one.

Too slow. Why have a door at all?

Yongyuth might become Pheu Thai leader again

BANGKOK, 13 September 2010 (NNT) – Caretaker Leader of Pheu Thai Party Yongyuth Wichaidit might become the Party’s Leader once again, although he has earlier declared his resignation.

Acting Pheu Thai Party Spokesperson Prompong Nopparit stated that Mr Yongyuth might return to take the Party’s helm because his name was included as one of the candidates for the vacant seat. He said MPs in the Party could also vote for Mr Yongyuth.

Mr Prompong noted that the formal decision would be made in the upcoming special meeting of the party, expected to take place on Tuesday.

The front-runner for the vacant seat is former National Police Chief and former Interior Minister Police General Kowit Wattana, who has been approached by ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to take the helm of the Party.

Meanwhile, Pheu Thai MPs Chairperson Police Captain Chalerm Yubumrung said he did not know about Pheu Thai MP for Samut Prakan Pracha Prasobdee’s comment that Mr Yongyuth should become the Party Leader once again.

Really, who in their right mind would want the job.

He may not have a choice if he gets the most votes.

Could be Comedy at its Best.

"Forced" to become the Party Leader... after he's already resigned (on the 4th try) and has said he doesn't want it.

May the best man win (even if it's against 'his' wishes) :)

:D

What would the other 7 Pheu Thai Party Leader candidates be thinking if he wins?

They lost to someone who quit the job after trying unsuccessfully to quit it for 20 months and who doesn't even want the dang thing.

That would be worse than losing an election to a dead candidate, which has happened on occasion.

7 Pheu Thai MPs return from meeting Thaksin in Russia

Seven Pheu Thai Party MPs have returned from meeting former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra in Russia, one of them said Monday.

Lop Buri MP Suchart Lainamngern said he and six other Pheu Thai MPs travelled to Moscow to meet Thaksin on September 11.

Suchart said the former prime minister is still healthy.

Suchart said Thaksin wanted to see reconciliation happen in the country and wanted to all Pheu Thai MPs to push for reconciliation.

Thaksin will also draft new election campaign platform for the Pheu Thai, Suchart said.

Just wondering about this continued saga of the (new/newer/newest) party chief (willing/unwilling/reluctant/appointed) candidate for the PTP.

Did Pol. Gen. Kosit sign up as member of PTP today as was said oh so long ago, last Friday?

Pheu Thai in Limbo on New Leader

The news of Pheu Thai Party MPs preferring former Party Leader Yongyuth Wichaidit to return has stirred confusion and a further rift within the Party.

Pheu Thai MP for Samut Prakan Pracha Prasobdi said both former Interior Minister Police General Kowit Wattana and former Pheu Thai Leader Yongyuth Wichaidit will be nominated as candidates for the Leader post during the Party assembly tomorrow.

Pracha said Pheu Thai's core elements have already decided to rename Yongyuth as Party Leader although Kowit has the support of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

He said Yongyuth is the preferred choice as he has worked with the Party for a long time and is able to command support of the Party's MPs.

The nominations of the Party's new executives are also expected to set off a dispute within the Party as some of its MPs disagree with choices of outsiders and former members of the now-defunct Thai Rak Thai Party.

Yongyuth, meanwhile, stated he had no knowledge about Pracha's statement that Pheu Thai MPs prefer him to return as Party Leader.

He added that the matter will become clear during the party's meeting tomorrow.

Pheu Thai Nonthaburi MP Colonel Apiwan Wiriyachai said he has not been informed about the MPs wanting Yonyuth to return. He said this will need to be supported by the majority of Party members.

He said once the Party's decision on the Leader post is finalized, its coordination panel will notify the MPs.

Soon a new topic I guess. From a Nation newsflash early 14th of September:

Kowit was supposed to register his membership with Pheu Thai yesterday so he could be nominated for today's election. After his no-show, rumours about Yongyuth's return buzzed. "Don't ask me what-if questions," Yongyuth, in a different mood from last week, said of the possibility of his resurgence. "I'm not commenting on things that have not happened yet."

Little bro' comes into the mix and former National Police Chief Kowit bows out of the race. Interesting that Payup is Chairman of MP's but he's not even an MP himself. Same as Party Leader (apparently again soon) Yongyuth:

Phayup to nominate Yongyuth as Pheu Thai leader again

Phayup Shinawatra said Tuesday that he will nominate former Pheu Thai Party Leader Yongyuth Wichaidit as the Pheu Thai leader again.

Phayup, a younger brother of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and the Chairman of the Pheu Thai Northeastern MPs, said Yongyuth is the most qualified for person for the post of the Party Leader.

Yongyuth changes course and agrees now to be put back into the position he's been trying to shed for 20 months:

Yongyuth expected to remain as Pheu Thai Leader

BANGKOK, 14 September 2010 (NNT) – Mr Yongyuth Wichaidit will still take the helm of the opposition Pheu Thai Party, according to Mr Payap Shinawatra, a younger brother of ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Mr Payap, also the Pheu Thai Northeastern MPs Chairperson, stated that the Leader of the Pheu Thai Party would remain unchanged since Mr Yongyuth was deemed the most appropriate to sit in the position left vacant by the recent resignation of Mr Yongyuth.

Mr Payap continued that he had already talked about this issue with Mr Yongyuth and the latter had no problem if the Party adopted such a resolution.

The formal resolution of the Party is expected today (Tuesday). A new set of party executives will also be appointed.

Earlier, former National Police Chief and former Interior Minister Police General Kowit Wattana had been speculated to be the front-runner in the contest to succeed Mr Yongyuth since he was apparently approached by former Prime Minister Thaksin.

Neddy Seagoon couldn't have said it better :D

:D

The American point of reference would be Yogi Berra's, "It's like deja vu all over again."

It's a terrific line to highlight the absurdities of this Party.

Party chief quits in mystery move

Yongyuth's sudden resignation raises question whether Thaksin has a new game plan

and now, 5 days later, they've come full circle with a near unanimous vote to return the quitter to his post

Yongyuth reinstated as Pheu Thai leader

BANGKOK, 14 September 2010 (NNT) - Members of the opposition Pheu Thai Party have re-elected Mr Yongyuth Wichaidit as the Party Leader.

The reappointment of Mr Yongyuth as Pheu Thai Party Leader was today supported by the Party members with a vote of 267 with 4 abstentions and 2 voided ballots during the confidential voting session.

Other key members elected into the new management team include Mr Ma Pho-ngam and Mr Plodprasob Surasawadee as Deputy Party Leaders, Mr Suphon Fong-ngam as the Party Secretary-General and Mr Prompong Nopparit as the Party Spokesperson.

Last week, Mr Yongyuth announced his resignation as Pheu Thai leader to allow for the restructuring of the Party in preparation for the next general election.

Former National Police Chief and former Interior Minister Police General Kowit Wattana was speculated to be the candidate to succeed Mr Yongyuth since he had reportedly been approached by the Pheu Thai Party’s de facto leader Thaksin Shinawatra.

Police General Kowit later refused to accept the post and did not apply for membership with the Party.

The general opinion is Kowit took Newin's warning regarding Samak's fate seriously, namely, you will merely be a puppet for the man in exile who will dispose of you whenever it's convenient.

And indeed the party's leading voices were saying the new leader may well not be the future Prime Minister, that position will be settled after the election.

Puppets please step forward now, ah, Mr Yongyut, how nice to see you again!

Thailand's main opposition Party reinstates Leader

Thailand's main opposition Puea Thai Party on Tuesday unanimously returned Yongyuth Wichaidit, who resigned from Party's leadership last week, as its Leader. Puea Thai Party members voted 267 with no objection at its general assembly to reinstate Yongyuth. Four other members abstained with two ballots miscast. "I thank everyone of you in trusting me to take this job again," Yongyuth told the meeting after the voting result was announced. "You can see how much love and engagement I have for this Party."

Yongyuth resigned from the leadership last Thursday amid speculation that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra had supported Police General Kowit Wattana, former National Police Chief and Interior Minister, to replace Yongyuth. However, Police General Kowit did not show up at Puea Thai's meeting on Tuesday. Earlier, he had not applied for the Party's membership, making him illegitimate for its leadership. Yongyuth is seen by local media as only the front man of Puea Thai with the real power remaining with Thaksin.
