Network Security Problem With Win 7

Featured Replies

I had a Home Network set up on 4 computers with Vista and operating with no drama..

Have now upgraded to Windows 7 and when trying to access other computers on network or adding a printer, a box comes up with Network Security (as per attached), requesting User / Password. What User / Password? I have set nothing up.

Can I dispense with this?

just above where you click shut down there is a button called help and support, try putting this in the search box

All 4 computers now have Win 7 installed... and this is when the problem started.

Actually I am away fro office at present so cannot check / test the setup.

Would it make a difference between Home Network or Work Network? At present on Home.

The password is set by windows 7 homegroup.

click start.

click control panel.

click network and internet.

click homegroup.

there you will find the password........ I change mine to something more user friendly than SGB0873mjudkuhdfslmfRJUHB9787394 (or what ever other <deleted> windoze puts up as one.

Apologies.. It looks like the attachment I referred to in my original post.. did not upload... And as I am away from office, I cannot reproduce at this time.

Spoonman, I have already done as you suggested and that part is not a problem. It is when I go into Network and click on say a computer to add a printer or something similar, this window "Network Security" comes up and asks for User / Password. There has been no User / Password set up on any of our computer (except in the original Homegroup setup).

Ahhhh gotcha now Bapak, When i was setting up my Xtreamer over WiFi I kept getting asked for a user name and password for the network............

under network and sharing go to advanced and turn off password protected sharing, pretty sure thats how I got my Xtreamer sorted.

Spoonman, I will shorly get out of my Sunday comfort zone and go to the office... and give your advice a try. However, I have a vague feeling that I have been there.

Look at the screen capture above there is change advanced setting 3 down from the arrow, you need to go in there and turn off password protection.

Just returned from office where everything now works...

I had gone into Advanced Setting previously but I did not go down far enough.

Thank all.
