Tropicalevo 11927
In wrong Forum am afraid to say. CAT has a way to get internet access, using a doggle. Do a search here, sorry cannot be more helpful. Yes - CAT sell a CDMA device that fits into a USB port. Costs approx 6,000 baht to buy and 800 ish baht per month. Works all over Thailand except BKK (for now - coming on board later). First three months free I believe that DTAC and AIS also do something similar with pay as you go. (DTAC for sure - my neighbour uses it.)
afarang 12
C.A.T. sells C.D.M.A., costs about B7500,+ about B850 per month to buy modem that plugs into a U.S.B. port. It connects to your nearest mobile phone tower. If you live within about 3 kilometres of your nearest mobile phone tower ,you will not need an antenna. Further away and you may need one. Works well. I.P. star sell a satellite dish, costs about B 5,000 to install +B1,500 per month. Both are unlimited. Sometimes extreme weather will upset the satellite. Losing the connection temporarily. I have used both ,prefer C.D.M.A.,as it is faster.

BWPattaya 432
If you don't need to connect for a long period then simply use the GPRS facility on your mobile. My DTAC contract gives me 20 hours free per month so when I go up-country it is enough for browsing and emails. Speed is 460 Kbps. It depends on your download and speed requirements if this is enough for you.

It depends on your download and speed requirements if this is enough for you. That's the max theoretical speed (460kbps) of EDGE/GPRS using DTAC or AIS. The average will be closer to half that. It's OK for general web browsing and emails with low volume attachments (I'm using it now on this forum), but for anything more substantial like downloading multimedia content (very useful when stuck out in the middle of nowhere) I'd go with CAT CDMA until 3G GSM ever takes off. Ipstar, forget it unless too far from a CAT tower.
exterminator 3
I am in the woods in the north, no TOT, no TRUE, nothing. I use DTAC baht 199 per month for 50 hours + 50 hours free (i think first month only). Speed is okay for general browsing and emails. Works off your SIM card - just call DTAC, be sure you have at least 200 baht in credit on your sim card (assume you use a prepaid), and they will activate it for you. Works fine for me until TOT gets here.
ballbreaker 145
OP as mentioned your 3 options are CAT CDMA, GPRS/Edge using your mobile phone and satellite via IPStar. Your planned use of internet service will best determine which service is cost effective for you.
