Garmin Nuvi 265

Featured Replies

Returning to Khao Lak for 5 months at the end of November and during that time in March we will be going to Perth, Australia for 2 weeks in March. I'm thinking of buying a Garmin Nuvi 265 on-line from BigW in advance in Australia and having it delivered to a friend in Oz to bring over to Khao Lak a couple of weeks after we arrive. The price in Oz is equivalent to 5030 THB complete with Australia maps which I don't think I could match in, say, Phuket (or could I?) Are there Thailand maps, particularly covering Phang Nga, Phuket, Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat Provinces, for this model and if so, how much and where from, please?

Thanks in advance.

Garmin nuvi 205 complete with Thailand Street Map v10.1 is currently on sale for 4900 baht in Thailand, you can add Australia map later via microSD card. Should you buy a nuvi 265 in Australia, you can purchase the Thailand Street Map v10.0/10.1 for 2000 baht from a Garmin dealer in Thailand, or look on the internet.

The Garmin 205W is much better as it has a larger screen but more expensive than the 205. Bought one for use in Thailand and its maps are excellent with free updates from some dealers. You can buy Aussie maps. Try Eagle GPS one of tv sponsers

Garmin 205W currentlyon offer in UK at equivalent of 3300 baht at the moment with UK maps. So I could get that here and purchase Thailand maps when we arrive there and Oz maps when we reach there or on-line but the Oz maps seemed very expensive from Garmin in Australia.

Pity no Thailand maps for my TomTom One 2nd Edition as Oz maps are half-price at the moment.

Thanks for help.

Stupid question but, if I buy a Garmin with Thai Maps pre loaded in Thailand are instructions (both the manual and when driving) in English as well as Thai?

Thailand Street Map v10.1, on micro/SD card, is available on-line from third party vendor for as little as 29.00 EUR; be sure to order the English language version. Garmin manuals are readily available on-line for downloading. All original maps direct from Garmin are expensive.

Thanks for that. I will do some Googling later. If I can find Oz maps same way, buying unit here plus 3rd party maps will give me 3 lots of maps then.

Cheers

Could you tell me who these 3rd party sites are please?

Google: Second Hand Garmin Maps

A Nuvi 265 including Aussie map for 5,000 Bt is an excellent deal-- assuming you have use for the Aussie map. That map can be expensive. To add the ESRI v10.1 Thailand map is inexpensive at 2000Bt.

i am in the Uk at the moment, 205 is 2500 baht new and 205w 4500. is 205 w much better than 205 i have a new 205 in Thailand but tempted to sell it over there and bring back a 205w

The 205 has a 3.5 inch screen, the 205W a 4.3 inch screen, everything else is the same. If that qualifies as much better, then go for it.

Best prices so far in UK:

Garmin 205W (newly overhauled (NOH) by Garmin with a Full 12 Months Warranty)

Full UK & Ireland maps £70

Thailand Maps €29 £25

Australia Maps £29

Total £124

(about 5980 Baht)

Garmin 255W (newly overhauled (NOH) by Garmin with a Full 12 Months Warranty)

Maps UK & Europe (West & East) £94

Thailand Maps €29 £25

Australia Maps £29

Total £148

(about 7120 Baht)

Seems that 255W is better value, being a later model and more UK & Europe maps included.

Thanks for all the help. :clap2:

Which Thailand map(s) come with the GPS? Map name and version number if you don't mind.

Sorry to mislead. The UK & Europe maps only come with the unit - see 205w hereand 255W here

The Thailand maps are sourced from Googling as you suggested (ESRI Thailand Street Map version 10.1 for Garmin)- see this link - and the Oz ones from Amazon Marketplace.

You could have gotten the Oz map from the same source as the Thai map, they have several maps on offer. You did ok by shopping around.

The Oz maps from same source as Thai ones are just a bit more expensive at £32 and the Amazon ones are shipped in UK.
