Hi Stevef,

At a guess I would say that it's a Banded Kukri Snake (Oligodon fasciolatus).

They are classed as none poisonous but they are back fanged and if one does manage to bite you it will slice rather than pierce the skin, which will take longer to heal.

Regards,

Tiger.

I concur with Tony

just googled it banded kukri and says its from india are they present throughout asia?

The Banded Kukri is also found in Thailand.

Try a google search with the words Banded Kukri Thailand.

Regards,

Tiger.

If you can get hold of a copy, I would recommend a handy little book titled ' A photographic guide to snakes and other reptiles of peninsular Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand', First published 1998 by New Holland. I bought my copy in Chiang Mai. Nice compact size and clear photos. I've seen a couple of new - but bulkier - books on the subject in Robinson's dept. store in C.M as well , so they are around.
