Nationwide Crackdown On Night Venues

Reading the OP again it seems the pubs mentioned are Thai-only or mostly Thai, no foreigners probably. Of course if as a Police officer you have to choose between a farang bar and a venue frequented by someone important's sons, the choice is easy ;)

twenty years ago someone in the know told me the top pimp in Paris notorious Strasbourg -Saint Denis district was the chief police commissionner of the place ; of course I didn't believe it ; of course it was all in the news (though very briefly) two years later. Same person in the know took me to the back alleys of the notorious Bois de Boulogne ; omg omg  never saw the like in LOS (and I tried).

said person was Gold Key in one of the best hotels in Paris ; had to go to court for allegedly pimping and came out scot-free .

"Of course it was a mistake " I told him ; he's still laughing.

There are two worlds ; just in Thaïland some things are less covert , or rather they are more frowned upon by the righteous; but it's the same in the Western world.

Problems are some of the places are probably under the protection of some military people. Oh well, let them fight it out for the pie.

Most likely not so often, the police are commonly the ones involved in most bar and entertainment venues - massage places and gambling dens included.

The military has traditionally other sources of revenue.

....please, can we have another crackdown - soon - on inappropriate university uniforms?

Oh, and with the eye candy?

eye candy, araï na ?

Eye Candy:

A common slang term for visually appealing persons or effects used to draw mass attention is eye candy.[2] The implication is that they are eye-catching

An example of which would be the aforementioned university uniforms:

"Metropolitan Police Division 5 commander Maj-General Anuchai Lekbamrung, meanwhile, said he had instructed the superintendent of the Wat Phraya Krai Police Station to explain why a big pub in his area of Bang Kho Laem district could operate beyond authorised hours." - - - To me, this is passing the blame. You think Anuchai Lekbamrung did not know why (could operate beyond authorised hours)?

>Crackdown on night venues

- Another nail in the tourism's coffin...

- Cancelling one more tourist's service ... (as you call it!)

But anarchy, corruption, and massive drug abuse totally out of control is definitely not the answer to boost tourism. More and more tourists are disgusted about the lawlessness and various mafia structures everywhere.

I'd sugget the thai government should take the same action as the mexicans: to release all corrupt and incompetent police officers from their jobs!!! Even if there's no more police force left, this is the only start for a new beginning, for thailand and the country's tourism.

But, ... no responsible politician or leading police officer will ever read these lines, - and - who cares about a farang's view anyway?!

@Buchholz

Thaaaank you . I've got an old uni card somewhere ; I'd look OK with a lil hair job .

""Good morning lil school girl (bis)

can I go home (bis) with you ?

Tell your mamma and your papa

I'm a school boy too " (trad itional by Johnny Winter)

You are welcome.

Johnny Winter is easily recognized, and justifiably so, as one of the greatest ever blues guitarists in history:

However, the song, "Good Morning Little School Girl"

was originally written and recorded by Sonny Boy Williamson II :

sonnyboywil.jpg

Good mornin' 'lil school girl,

Can I go home, can I go home with you?

Tell your mother and your father,

I'm a little school boy, too

* we return you now to your regularly-scheduled programming *

Sure ... I look at the profiles mainly when somebody posts a visceral opinion on one thing or another ... usually they don't have any profile info ... When I once queried why some persons who give out advice over thousands of posts have zero info on their profile, the answer was for privacy... My response was 'Is your life that secretive or just that boring?'

>Crackdown on night venues

1. A "witch-hunting" for something REAALY SOOO IMPOOOOORTANT to this country, to the safety of locals and to the internal improvements progress, so-called "reconciliation"

2. Another nail in the tourism's coffin. Sad but true. Hotels are empty (emptiest I ever see for decades), and what we're doing now? Cancelling one more tourist's service, raising thai baht, allow rallies under SOE - and expecting the INCREASE of the arrivals. High-class arrivals, yeah. A dumbest dumberers! A HUB of idiots!!!

3. They got to find ANOTHER job to those who will be fired from those bars - just to let them survive. Will they care those who lost their jobs? We all know the answer.

4. The bombs are still exploding on the streets. Daily! Yeah, it is 2nd-priority task to fix it comparing to the night venues.

Im really tired of all of these idioticities......

Thanks for this post, common sense at last.

Thailand seems bent on destroying it`s tourist industry. Remember, Thailand used to be famous for it`s bars, nightlife and anything goes approach to adult entertainments. Thailand was renowned as the adult playground and fun capital of the world. Just as Las Vagas is for it`s gambling clubs. Imagine what would happen if they closed all the casinos in Vagas, bye bye tourists. Chiang Mai is a typical example of the damage done to businesses by the policies of the prim and proper merchants of light and goodness.

The project of making Thailand more desirable to what they call decent folk hasn’t worked. The plan has ended up in the scrap yard along with a big pile of joke elite cards. Closing down or restricting the operations of the bars and nightlife entertainments has created a huge knock on affect with other businesses, especially to restaurants and hotels. If this trend continues, the result will be that Thailand will lose the trade and income created by these services which will be to the benefit of countries like India, Cambodia and the Philippines that can accommodate the type of tourists who are willing to travel half way round the world for the bar and night entertainment scene.

Groundhog day

seem to recall the same ol story in 1999 and every couple of yes or so since.

And who will enforce against the "uniform ' controlled profitable businesses. When after thorough warning the gals were swept frompattaya for aday so a female minister of Tourism or some such coud declare it a vice free zone.Pimp my country? No No

It's as old as the Romans old story "Quies custodiet ipsos custodes"who will police the police, need honest powerful Correigidors impaartial magistrates with real clout.B)

Local Vice squad disbanded as unable to define the term.

sadly Serpico wouldnt last long in the fetid soup here, not to worry if crimebusting is exhausting keen young crime busters there families know that the bars and girls and loteries and up our way teak ivory yabba ,pai etc will up up the Xmas box.

As Sir Robert Mark showed at The Met in 1970s London the clean sweep must start at the top, zero tea money and a few big names behind bars ,no pun intened

How is a reasonable closing hour going to disrupt Thailand's tourism trade? Do people really need to be drinking at 3 AM? On the contrary, the enforcement of the existing rules would promote tourism. Here's the perfect example; Patong. It's filled with alot of hotels, some of them big money makers. Do you think the guest paying 8-10,000 baht per night wants to be kept awake by the crappy beer bar across the street? it's like that at many of the big hotels. these bars spring up in close proximity and blare their noise until early morning. I can hear the Absolut club's music 1/2 km away from our place. There was a time when these bars had some common sense, reducing the noise level and controlling their patrons. Not anymore. Try walking from Bangla to the Holiday Inn or Marriott and not step in a puddle of farang produced puke, or not see at least one stupid scuffle.

The people pushing for the crackdown are the major resort operators and tourist agencies that are fed up with the complaints from their angry frustrated clients. the fact is that there wouldn't be an issue if some of these bar and club operators hadnot pushed the envelope. What some people miss is that a night doesn't go by in high season where some tourist has been splattered or caused a DUI crash. What about the staff in these bars? It's fun for the first month or so, but then working a 12 hour shift becomes numbing. The staff are humans and they need some downtime. Many of the bar owners won't give that time off unless they are forced to.

where do you come from, Qatar?

saying I met my son's mother in Thaïland has been a social embarrassment for more than 15 years now, because of people like you. I was nearly told in the face things amounting to " she must be so happy escaping from her squalid brothel thanks to your good heart"with resulting answer I let you imagine. (met her at a consulate where she processed visas and dealt with higher than Hi So; said "why did you take me to this trash bin " upon arriving inFrance).

Nightlife is mafia, everywhere; I know, Ilived near Pigalle for a while; they bend all the rules to make money then , yes, you live in a trash bin; who with a sane mind can want that ?

My favorite was the beach night market in Pattaya. They closed it and claimed the city had no idea it was going on, yet there are HUGE signs everywhere advertising it with very large sponsor logos all over it, including the Tourism Authority Of Thailand.

Market is gone, signs are still up.

Or that some of the people they are regularly contradicting,

clearly can't be trusted in the real world...or their friend's.

Jakrapob spoke his mind and lo and behold his parents house is no more.

I doubt he would be the only one to think opinions are fine if some people don't know too much about your real life.

I may have missed something, but till now I haven't read anything about a possible cause of why the house burned down. Even without help these things happen, lots of wood, crappy electric wiring, etc.

If there's more info on this, please post here. Thanks.
