Pattaya Bargirl Attempts 3rd Suicide after Drunken Dispute

PATTAYA: -- A young Thai woman has been admitted to hospital in a serious condition after attempting suicide on Sunday morning, according to authorities. The woman, a local bargirl, had reportedly attempted suicide on two other occasions prior to Sunday’s incident.

Pattaya, the 26th of September 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 5:00am on Sunday, Lieutenant Pachara Sansakuljit (Pattaya Deputy Investigator) was notified of an attempted suicide at the “Reun Manee Choke” apartments in Soi Weera, South Pattaya. A team of officers along with rescue personnel were dispatched to the incident to investigate.

Editor note: This case is typical of an average bargirls “emotional blackmail”, in most cases the argument goes no further than to provoke the other party into submitting in the argument, whatever the dispute. However, in extreme cases, often involving alcohol or drugs, we see life threatening situations like this occurring, often with disastrous consequences.

There is something patronizing about this rather pointless set of generalisations.

In situations like this, were both parties involved are ‘working class’ Thai’s with little money or standing to warrant any investigation, police will just drop the case or rather file it with no more investigation, other than that done at the scene, conducted.

But that actually sounds absolutely sensible police procedure here, given there are no suspicious circumstances to this attempted suicide, so why bother commenting on it?

In cases such as this, which involve a foreign subject, the story is remarkably different. The foreign man/woman will be required to undergo a full investigation in accordance with Thai law. If the said foreigner involved is then found not suspicious or has Thai friends who can assist him in dealing with the authorities, no action is taken. However, should he/she then be involved in a similar incident in future ‘costly’ action against the involved will almost certainly be taken, due to a prior record.

“in cases such as this which involve a foreign subject?” No foreigner IS involved here. Or maybe this is just terrible English written by what seems to be a native English speaker?

“The foreign man/woman will be required to undergo a full investigation in accordance with Thai law.”

This has gone way off beam now. Is he saying the foreigner who might have attempted suicide will be fully investigated, or is he suddenly talking about the “other party” in the condo, in this case her boyfriend, if HE was a foreigner? Which person is he talking about?

Anyway, again a full investigation in accordance with Thai law actually sounds like commendable police conduct which should be encouraged.

“If the said foreigner involved is then found not suspicious or has Thai friends who can assist him in dealing with the authorities, no action is taken.”

Quite right too. So what’s the point of this comment? And again, just to be clear, are we talking about the suicide attempter or the bystander here.

It’s still not clear, but this confused remark provides the wobbly ground from which to make what must have been the tail wagging the dog in the whole ill-thought out Editor’s Note - a cheap shot at the police:

However, should he/she then be involved in a similar incident in future ‘costly’ action against the involved will almost certainly be taken, due to a prior record.

This sentence is just more pure conjecture, rubbish opinion and almost certainly not the case, if the party was innocent. But again, if he was at the scene of 10 attempted suicides, then yes, I WOULD want the police to fully investigate the bystander, so what’s the writer's problem?

If the writer of this pointless piece actually means the person attempting suicide will have action taken against them, I seriously doubt it, but I can’t tell who he means from the way this opinion has been so poorly written.

Stick to reporting the facts please, which PDN does well.
