King tells Privy Councillors to instill generosity in Thais

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej yesterday told members of the Privy Council to instill generosity into Thai people so that the haves will assist the have-nots.

Speaking to the privy councilors and their spouses led by President of the Privy Council General Prem Tinsulanond during a private audience on the 14th Floor of Chalerm Phrakiat Building in Siriraj Hospital, His Majesty the King asked the privy councilors to encourage people in the nation to think more of the majority’s interests so that Thailand would be peaceful.

“Those who are considered to have more than others should show generosity or give some to the have-nots at an appropriate amount which will not trouble themselves. At the same time, the haves-not should not only wait for assistance, thinking they themselves are incapable. They should make efforts. If (everyone) helps each other in this way, the nation will be peaceful,” said HM the King.

HM King Bhumibol has been staying in Siriraj Hospital for about a year. He was admitted on 19 September 2009 due to fatique and respiratory problems. His Majesty’s health has substantially improved as Her Majesty Queen Sirikit mentioned in her birthday speech last month. She said that doctors still asked His Majesty to remain in hospital to do physical therapy so that he could move around with strength first before leaving the hospital.

Red-shirt station alleges govt with blocking transmission

Newly revived red-shirt community radio FM 102.75 based in Bangkok claim the government is interfering with their transmission through signal jamming and the act is a breach against their constitutional right to communicate.

"We have been threatened and this shouldn't have taken place," said Pongsak Kongsaena, director of the radio which broadcast to listeners in the northeastern part of Bangkok including Min Buri which is a stronghold of red shirts. "Thai society is fully entering a dark age. Those who hold differing view are being threatened."

Pongsak said at a press conference Tuesday that the government should cease the jamming and respect the fundamental right of citizens to communicate. He added that the station will lodge a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission.
