Reading Electric Meters

Featured Replies

Hello. I just wanted to let every TV Reader to this post have a cautionary note. Be aware of the scams of reading meters. The non-Thai meter has a four digit number and then a decimal point. The trick here is not to read the decimal point when quoting your electricity usage. So instead of being charged for 391.7 units usage, the people reading the meter will tell you that you used 3917 units. That is a big price difference. Yes this happened to me, so please beware and check to see if your meter has a decimal point. Then go and check your bills.

Regards.

Are you sure it was a scam and not just a simple error.

Do you pay your dues to a condo manager or is it a government placed bill?

Did you get to see the actual govt bill? If you get that...you can pay it at 7/11...and they give you a reciept.

I pay to a villa owner. I just get the numbers from the meter printed on my rental bill. Neverdie, I also picked this up from a previous house I rented from the same company. I don't think it is an error, more like - we want to make more money- this is Phuket.

^okay no worries, it pays to check things, I havent had that problem but once had a water bill where a simply typo had been made and it was cleared up fairly easily.

Sorry to seem dumb but what is a "non-Thai meter"?

Should read non Thai Electricity department, installed and approved.
