Hi all just wondering if it is possible to change the 'Date you wish to travel' for a Settlement Visa after the online application has been submitted?

My wife & a friend have filled the application out after I had already asked them to put 31st October ( I know this is unrealistic) but if the Visa is granted will we now have to wait until 10th December before she can travel ( this is the date they put in the online app)

Yours very frustrated!!

Hi

My understanding is the date you put on the application is irrelevant and you can travel within 3 months of the visa being granted, so I would not worry about it.

As I understand it, the visa will be dated from the date of travel entered on the application or the date the visa is issued; whichever is the later.

Most settlement visas are valid for 27 months and the holder will only need to have been in the UK for 24 months to be time qualified for ILR, so one has plenty of time in which to travel.

Remember, though, that a fiance visa or prospective civil partner visa are only valid for six months. So one has this time to travel to the UK, marry or register one's civil partnership and apply for FLR.

Thats what I am worried about, it says on the UK border agency website that you can make changes in writing on the printed out copy, but would they still refer to the date on the Online version?

Just on the off chance that they clear everything & issue the Visa before 10th December would they still validate it from 10th December or the date when it is actually issued?

Has the application actually been submitted yet, that is has the applicant attended the VAC, submitted the printed out copy along with their supporting documents, paid the fee, had their biometrics taken etc.?

If no, then as you have read they can change the date before they actually do submit it in person.

If yes, then they I don't think that they can; but they could try writing to the embassy, quoting their reference number, and asking.

However, as said above, if the visa's start date is before the 10th December the 27 month length of it will still enable them to travel on that date and fulfill the 24 month residency requirement for ILR before it expires.

Thanks for the advice, yes my wife has changed the date on the printed out version & submitted the application today.

The reason I was asking about the date of travel was not about fulfilling the 24 month residency requirement but because we do not want to be apart for longer if the Visa was issued before the 10th December but she could not come to the UK before that date.

Thanks again
