What about good old fashioned "Norgesic", great stuff.

never heard of it, what is it? I see it is a muscle relaxant but does it help with the joint pain also? I missed my weight training [low weight, high reps] today because my shoulder pains are killing me. Joints and muscle

any drug store would carry it , but killing the pain do not solve your problem , what you need is to find what what is causing your backache .

i have gallstone problem and i take tramadol . but i try my best not to take it unless the pain is really really bad .

Tramadol has some serious side effects, very addictive (so not to be taken regularly) and prevents erection and ejaculation.

(It's secondary use is for men who suffer from premature ejaculation, but changes the condition from 'premature' to 'almost impossible')

Oh! As a postscript for those regulars on this thread who seem to care most about it, that pharmacy offers Viagra at competitive prices! But that --- sorry, chums! --- is not what I need!

You will if you start taking Tramadol!

If you take pain killers before your workout, aren't you at risk of doing too much and damaging your joints/muscles, but won't know it until the pain killer wears off?

Just about everywhere sells Ponstan 500, 500mg Ibu. Mostly yellow with red marking card packet containing 10 tablets.

Just as good. I can buy Ibuprofen just up the street in the village. It's all over the place. Usually spelled and sold by generic name too, but same ingredients. Yes just as safe.

Ibuprofin not a muscle relaxer. It is stricly an anti-inflammatory. Ponstan is a anti-inflammatory that also works on muscle pains. Better yet for joint pain, in my opinion, is Naprosin. For serious muscle problems try and find the generic Robaxin. Excellent for back pain, but only muscle relaxant. Know from experience. Many of the druggists will try and peddle whatever they happen to have, so should ask for specific items.

FWIW:

"Note: Arcoxia has not been approved by the FDA for the U.S. market. The manufacturer of Arcoxia received a non-approvalable letter from the FDA in April of 2007. This non-approvable letter was due to safety concerns of an increased risk of cardiovascular events (including heart attack and stroke) and questions on the benefit-risk ratio in patients taking Arcoxia. Merck will continue to market Arcoxia outside the United States."

"Your doctor will prescribe Arcoxia for you only after you have used other medicines for your condition and they have not been suitable for you."

I had a short course of Arcoxia prescribed here, too. As always, I looked it up and used it with caution. Can't decide if it works better than ibu.

Whether you think the FDA is too restrictive or too lax or just right, there is a lot of info that's yours for the googling.

Ibuprofen is a anti inflammatory.

My doctor prescribed Wharfin instead of aspirin to help the blood stay thinner.

Ibuprofen can be hard on the stomach and should be taken with food. Because it is hard on the stomach there is always the risk of it bleeding and with the Wharfin the blood would be hard to clot.

I say this so people will be aware of side affects from use with other drugs. A doctor in Canada told me to take Alieve it would work just as well and not cause problems in the stomach.

Warfarin is not a drug to mess with and can cause life threatening internal haemmorhage if not monitored ......I certainly hope you get weekly or at least monthly blood checks. smile.gif

oh - well... it was prescribed by the leading Surgeon here (who takes it himself) at Siripat (best in Thailand they say) - i take it 3/4 times a week and find it very good but i cant comment on the FDA who don't approve many things for their own reasons maybe - thanks for info though but it wouldn't stop me taking it personally

Edit: I noticed the UK has approved it ? Caveat Emptor?

The two sisters at the pharmacy across from the Montri Hotel can help. They deal with many, many westerners so they're used to dealing with people who don't speak English with a Thai accent. It's the first pharmacy west of Thapae Gate. There is another pharmacy a few doors west of theirs that isn't as helpful.

Good recommendation, and good directions.

That is my favorite Pharmacy of the 20 or so that I have tried in Chiang Mai. I think the owners are mother and daughter.
