As the PM was in Myanmar yesterday to bolster trade, new deep water port and to offer help with upcoming elections, I was wondering if anyone knows when Mae Sot will re-open? I presume it was on the agenda as I saw somewhere that 100million bts worth of trade had already been lost in Tak, it would be in everyones interest to get it open as soon as possible. Yes it would give me a better option for doing my visa run. My trip to Ban Khlong Luek last week end was not a memorable experience. Going out to Cambodia was good on the Thai side. Cambodian immigration officers charged me 800 bts for a visa, 2x100 bts for "help to fill out application form" Eyes not so good these days I am afraid, then stoppd by Tourist Police 200bts for a 5 minute fast track paperwork, worth it. The problem was when I got back to Thai Immigration, the officer had to drink a whole bottle of water and have several conversations with colleagues before he remembered what he was there for, he then failed to spot I had a multi entry visa and stamped me 15 days! Incompetent or what. So I look forward to Mae Sot being open again and a trip to Mae Sai who also seem to have a good reputation.

the one month tourist visa for cambo is 20 USD.

It should be posted in the immigration office.

If they try to charge you extra, ask for their names and say you will talk to the government in PP abou them.

never let them charge you for express visa or any other service if you do not ask for it.

regarding mae sot unless one is near there, no reason to go there except for the fact that at Mae Sai the Myanmar people charge 500 baht for entry, while in Mae Sot they charge 250.
