Salary Certificate

Recommended Posts

I got married recently at the Amphur office and didn't have to show any financial details at all.

Are you sure you're not mixing it up with getting a nonO visa on the basis of marriage, in which case you do need to show funds?

To marry in Thailand you must first obtain paperwork from your Embassy that may well include your job/salary as well as marriage status. That is then translated and registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. That registered copy is then presented to the District Office and verified before they will issue a marriage certificate.

Thank you. I mean what is the certificate like? Can it be just a formal letter in letter head of the company where I work indicating that I work in there and have a salary of ... ? Is this acceptable?

Meanwhile, how long all these procedures take?

What is required is up to your Embassy. In the case of US you fill out a prepared form by filling in the blanks and have it signed and notarized.

The British embassy is similar.

They have a standard form that you have to type up with your details

and then it is notorised.

I don't recollect any requirement for financial details. That comes later

when you want a visa.

This may simply be "mis-translation" by the Amphur office.

Anybody can provide me contact details of some amphur ( easy-going amphurs )!

tks

I seriously doubt that you are going to find any amphur willing to register a marriage in direct violation to the Public Service Manual which says:

If an alien is registering to be married to a Thai citizen or another alien, he or she is required to submit following documents.

A copy of their passport.

A Letter of Certification, issued by an Embassy or Consulate or a Government Organization from their country, regarding the marital status of the person. The Letter must be translated, then certified by the relevant Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

so, I conclude that if i want to register the marriage without intention of getting O visa and staying in Thailand, I will not need any salary/work certificate.

tks

It does not matter what your intent is. To register you must submit the mentioned paperwork. If your Embassy requires salary/job you must provide it. Believe a reference in your home country is also a requirement. Thai take this paper as "a good person" who can support a wife document so don't expect office to be overjoyed to see zero in salary space but if you have a reason do not believe that would be a major factor itself. You do not need a work permit in any case.

It is a little hard to provide exact information as you have not provided much to work with. Your intentions are rather important; as is your nationality. In some cases it might be better to marry in another country if you do not plan to live here (the comment about not needing non O visa is reason for making that observation). The more specific you can be the better people can help you.

There's a short form that you fill in at The Ministry of Forign Affairs, but I can't remember if that asked for details of your salary or occupation. Either way, there is no need to back it up with paperwork at any stage, including the Brit. Embassy.

I was quite surprised at my Amphur office. I was expecting them to give us a fairly lenghty talk about what we were doing, the responsibility etc - this had happened to friends in the past - but it was all over in 15 mins and we left with our certificates.
