When Your Number Is Up

in the car not so long ago and Frank Sinatra (I did it my way) came on the radio, well I wacked the volume right up and started singing to it! I then told my wife that I want this one played at my funeral or cremation whatever its going to be, and carried on singing. I turned and looked at her with a big grin on my face only to see the poor girl crying her eyes out

I apoligised for my singing but she said it had nothing to do with it, she just does not want to talk about my death! :whistling:

Anyway, what would you want played at your funeral wake?

Hmm, not sure

Well, of course, I'd want everyone to cry and feel melancholy  so I reckon this one first :)

This Iggy Pop tune reminds me of my youth and good times with great friends and the title is kind of ironic to be played at a funeral so I reckon I'd like that to be played at the end.

Anything they want, it's not like I'm going to be singing along is it?

First : Comfortably Numb, Pink Floyd.

As they light the gas : Hurry up harry, Sham 69, Lyrics:-

Hurry up Harry come on

Come on come on

Hurry up Harry come on

We're going down the pub

We're going down the pub

Now listen here Harry

If we're going down the pub

You'd better tell your mum and dad

And finish up your grub

I wish you'd listen to me

No, I don't want a cup of tea

Come on come on

Hurry up Harry come on

Come on come on

Hurry up Harry come on

We're going down the pub

We're going down the pub

You're telling me to grow up

But Harry don't you see

If I tried to act my age

I wouldn't be me

We never do anything

So now's the time to begin

Come on come on

Hurry up Harry come on

Come on come on

Hurry up Harry come on

We're going down the pub

We're going down the pub

You don't have to tell me

That the thing's I do are wrong

But everything I do in life

Is with us right or wrong

Now I think I understand

How to have some fun

Come on come on

Hurry up Harry come on

Come on come on

Hurry up Harry come on

We're going down the pub

as I sincerely hope they will be going down the pub.

I'd have two.....

As they arrive,

Monty Python's 'Always Look On The Bright Side of Life' (as sung at the end of the film Life of Brian).

Later (and in complete contrast).......

'To Build A Home' by The Cinematic Orchestra

And as they all leave.........

Bach's Toccata & Fugue in D Minor

agree.. it should be 'ask the audience' what they feel best fits

and with that in mind.. this one would be kinda sad, but cool too in an honest type way - would be surreal to hear this one played..

hauntingly beautiful ode to some that choose to go.. (albeit in a very specific way ;) )

.

as for me, don't really mind what the clan revs up.. but something like this would be ok.. :)

for the commemorative service in the US (for I shall surely die and be cremated in Thailand) I want the funeral hall to resound with howls of grief and cries of despair and for this purpose select the adagio from one of the Bach violin conciertos; maybe the one in A flat whatever, those that know these conciertos know which one I'm talking about...sounds like a dirge but with tender passages and you expect the sun to come out and to shine on the casket/urn or whatever...a guaranteed tear jerker...

when I buried me mum many years ago in Bolivia there was no music so I whistled the adagio in the limo on the way to the cementario general...the local relatives in the car were startled and disapproving...I looked back with a glare that said: 'she was my mum and I'm the oldest son and I'll whistle whatever the <deleted> I want, goddamit...'

stinkin' 'evangelical Christians' think that music comes from the devil...

There are some great tracks here that will bring some smiles and some tears. I dont agree with letting the "guests" choose the music as I reckon the music played should represent the dead person in a way the dead person wants to be remembered.

I would choose I did it my way because I am a selfish fecker and think the people who were close to me would get that. so I think it suits me to a tee! :D

Considering I'm a lot closer to passing on then the rest of you here I'lm like Ulysses. They can play anything they dam_n well feel like.

How about... "I'm glad to see you've gone cause I just won't miss your snoring" :D
