The South Korean Yonhap news agency reported that the two nations are planning to hold discussion in Washington, D.C. on October 25 to assess a revision of the Korea-U.S. Atomic Energy Agreement, which was signed in 1973. "Negotiations between the South Korean and U.S. governments on revising the bilateral nuclear energy accord will begin in Washington on October 25," said the unnamed source. "The two countries will also discuss ways to conduct joint study on the controversial pyroprocessing technology." According to reports, Cho Hyun, South Korean deputy minister for multilateral and global affairs, and Robert Einhorn, the U.S. State Department's special adviser for nonproliferation and arms control, will be the chief negotiators from both sides. The 1973 agreement was signed to regulate Seoul's use of nuclear energy and is set to expire in 2014. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2010-10-16
