Six gunned down at a party in Mexico's drug-plagued north

MEXICO CITY (BNO NEWS) -- Suspected drug gang gunmen stormed into a family party on Friday nigth in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez killing at least six people, officials said on Saturday.

According to local police spokesperson Adrian Sanchez, the gunmen entered through the back door and opened fire against the partygoers at the house near downtown Juarez. Sanchez said that two men died at the spot while four others -three men and a woman- died of multiple gunshot wounds at a local hospital.

The attack recalls another similar shooting that occurred in the city in late January, in which 14 people were killed and 12 were injured as hitmen stormed three houses while teenagers were partying, celebrating the birthday of one of them.

Similar attacks have also occurred in neighboring states. On July 18, hitmen arrived in several cars at a venue called Italia Inn near the city of Torreon, in Coahuila state, and after the main door was blocked, they started shooting at the people, mostly young, killing 17.

So far this year, Ciudad Juarez has witnessed approximately 2,000 murders related to drug cartels.
