First of all let me tell you

a. I use TOT at work and

b. I have 3BB i use at home

Lately for the last week many websites abroad are taking longer and longer to connect to. I am aware of the various factors including

1.Time of day when use internet

2.Amount of people connecting to the website

3. Share ratio of internet line

4. Also I know international gateway in thailand is very poor and it seems most of the major connections out have to go from singapore it would seem

Anyway, I am not sure if its just me, or Thailand ISP dns servers are really bad, or some cut in underwater internet line.

Why post this question on here and not in internet forum I just want to know if those of us living on samui are experiencing the same problems

I am having problems with Yahoo for the last few days. that' the only overseas site I basically use.

The past few weeks 3BB and TOT have gone very strange. I found I was able to traceroute to bbc.co.uk in 4 hops on 3BB, so theres obviously something intercepting traffic at 3BB. Remote desktop has crawled to halt. Most web pages are okay, but stuff like youtube seems problematic, videos on vimeo.com continously buffer. It looks like CAT may be the only sane solution once again - a shame as 3BB were really improving as much as a month ago. Even stuff like overplay.net VPNs that I use are disconnecting frequently.

As for DNS always use 8.8.8.8 (google's public DNS) or opendns. As for thaivisa hosting in singapore, routes to singapore used to perfect, think sub 100ms pings and max bandwidth on stuff like 3BB Indy / TOT. That's all gone now. I use to route my browsing through a VPS in Singapore (route to singapore and then international from singapore a grade), no longer possible with any reasonable speed (unless maybe with CAT).

I have a feeling that they system they were using to throttle torrents a few months ago (experimentally) are being more liberally applied and possibly in the process of being tweaked, so there may be some light at the end of tunnel, if they get it right.

ah , so that will explain why sometimes only 50 % of Thaivisa works :whistling:

I have had no luck getting onto a new Web site here in Thailand. (Times out) My friend owns it and works fine elsewhere in the important world.. Have phoned TOT to get them to check their DNS server if updated and to check IP of website? not heard back yet. Will chase them up tomorrow. Can get frustrating. :D

I've been complaining to ToT - the worlds worst telecommunications company 1100 almost daily since Tuesday October 12 when everything seemed to go tits up at about 2.50pm.

I've also been phoning the Pattaya ToT manager - direct number 038 424045 Ms Panissara

Yesterday I simply phoend her and asked her if she was a good cook and if she had hot water at her home. When she asked "why"? I simply told her it was because I was moving in to her house until my internet was fixed. "What time do you finish work because I don't have a key yet?"

Finally fed up I fired off a "I'm a totally pissed off internet user" letter to ToT public relations department ( - [email protected] - )early yesterday afternoon promising to file formal complaints with the Consumer Protection Committee and the NTC and also promising that I was in the process of gathering names of people who are also totally fed up with the quality of internet with the view of taking legal action against them.

A quick check with some of our clients in Bangkok and Pattaya found that their internet and computer maintenance providers had already in fact filed written complaints with ToT - the worlds worst telecommunications company.

At 5.30pm I received a telephone call that the technician would arrive in 30 minutes. Five minutes later a team of three was at the door.

Naturally replicating the problems to their satisfaction proved to be problematic, though they really had nothing to say when shown a collection of speedtest results similar to the one in the attached file.

At one point they did mumble something about MICT filtering but declined to say much more.

They downloaded the latest firmware from http://www.solomon.c...rch=&category=1 and updated the firmware in my modem and things seem a little improved today but the jury is still out. And before anyone asks I have absolutely no idea what the last download on this page "Easy setup TOT-police project Application" is – That should send some people to the site out of curiosity I imagine

Until then I'm keeping a bag packed for moving to the home of the Pattaya ToT manager and she's probably Googling "how do I explain a strange farang living in my house to my family and neighbors" :whistling:

As a non technical nerd, please can someone explain how do you know if you are connected to the TV Bangkok server or the Singapore server?

My download speeds are approx. 1.0 mbs from Bkk but 50% faster from the Singapore one.(I'm supposed to get 4 mbs from TOT but clearly never do).

Can you choose which server to connect to or is it automatice depending on the traffic?

Discussed here it gives the method of checking through tracer. Too technical for me :)

Yes, I agree, the service, (True through TOT), has been pretty slow in the last week or so. At one stage when I was trying to upgrade my service True blamed the State of Emergency on the slow service. By that I presume they mean the censorship by MICT. Vide this article in today's Guardian. Perhaps things will only get worse.

Kinda glad I am not the only one having problems. I am getting sick of telling customers "It is not my fault!"

Here is my latest speed test, sickening really
