U.S. national injured after blast in downtown Beijing

BEIJING, CHINA (BNO NEWS) -- A US national was injured on Thursday afternoon after an explosion took place near a subway station in downtown Beijing, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The 30-year-old American, whose name was not revealed, was slightly injured in his leg as he was passing by the place where the blast occurred. The U.S. national is currently studying in China.

Authorities said that the blast took place at 3:20 p.m. local time next to a newspaper stand near the Dongzhimen subway station in Dongcheng district.

The American citizen was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for his leg injury. Police investigators gathered evidence at the scene and are investigating the cause of the blast.
