Two Pakistanis arrested with 1.5 kg of heroin

BANGKOK, Oct 22 -- Thai customs officers detained two Pakistani nationals smuggling 1.5 kg of heroin, worth Bt4.6 million (US$150,000) at Suvarnabhumi Airport, according to Thailand's Customs Department.

Iqbal Shaheen and Khan Mohammed Irfan were detained Thursday at the arrival terminal of Thailand's main international airport with heroin in their stomachs, Prasong Poontaneat, Customs's Director-General, said Friday.

The arrest was made when customs officers noticed that the two men behaved erratically and asked them to pass through an X-ray scanner where unidentified objects were detected in their stomachs.

They were then ordered to a toilet to defecate and officers found 100 packages of heroin in the two men's stomachs, at a combined weight of 1.5 kg, valued at about $150,000. The initial investigation found that the detained drug traffickers flew from the Pakistani capital of Islamabad to the kingdom by Thai Airways International

The detainees earlier planned to deliver the drug to a Thai woman customer in Pratunam and she hoped to sell the heroin to Thai partygoers and tourists.

The two men had were alleged to have smuggled the drug into Thailand six times and were paid Bt50,000 [$1,60] each time.

Both were charged with possessing and illegal smuggling of drugs into Thailand. (MCOT online news)

Ive have sympathy for people caught with ecstasy, marijuana and such like, but Heroine does kill and genuinely ruins lives, so some you win some you lose for these guys.

As long as there is demand, there will be supply. History shows over and over again that there are always poor suckers willing to risk their lives (literally) to smuggle illegal substances.

They don't really manufacture it in the North of Thailand any more, mostly made in Burma.

The white stuff, also called # four is much more expensive than the brown Pakistani shit.

Most junkies or sniffers are used to this brown shit and especially at tourist destinations like Ko Panghan people are paying a lot

I bet alcohol is responsible for creating more babies then its kills adults .... but seriously round my way a significant amount of the kids i went to school with got into heroine 10-15 years ago, as in the outgoing jack the lad types ... several are now dead and 100% of the others have completely lost their personality and arent quite with it.

Whilst im for legalising of many drugs i cant quite see how crack or heroine could possibly be legalised, though it seems the death sentence isnt even enough to deter people so i dont know what the answer is.

Yes and for years you could just go thru Don Muang, leaving Thailand with your suitcases loaded, while the DEA worked in the airport.
