China donates $200,000 to support UN efforts

UNITED NATIONS (BNO NEWS) -- China on Friday announced the donation fo $200,000 to the United Nations trust funds in order to support the agency's efforts on international affairs.

According to the state-run Xinhua news agency, the check was presented by Wang Min, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, to Lynn Pascoe, the Under- Secretary-General of the United Nations for Political Affairs.

The donation will be distributed to the Trust Fund for Preventive Action and the Trust Fund in Support of Political Affairs. Each trust fund will receive 100,000.

China expects that such funds will be used to conduct mediation and improve related mechanisms in order to contribute more to world peace and security. The Asian nation supports solving disputes through dialogue and negotiation in a peaceful way.

Pascoe welcomed the donation and thanked China's support to the UN preventive diplomacy and the efforts of the UN Department of Political Affairs. He assured that the awarded funds will be properly used.

The United Nations play an important role on preventive diplomacy and political mediation, as demonstrated by its interventions in the current conflicts in Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo and other African nations.
