Wife'S Thai Birth Certificate?

Featured Replies

We need a certified copy for her US immigrant visa. She knows where she was born. What documents does she need to retrieve it? Does she have to go in person?

Thanks.

I assume you are after a copy because you do not have the original. If she has an ID card you can use that as proff of who she is, I would imagine they may need the family book. I would go to your local ( not necessarilly your wife's) amphur as they will be able to tell you. Take along any docs you have and see what they say. If all you need is a certified copy of a birth certificate you already have you will probably need it stamped by the Thai Embassy and they may well do that by post. Won't they need a translation though. I have only done this the other way round. To be honest yu need to contact the amphur and both embassies to tie up what they need direct or you could end up going round in circles.

Good luck

Yeah no problemo my Thai mama inlaw got her birth certificate after she told the local government office we applied to, that she was born in the summer time. really no shit :D

My girl friend had lost her birth certificate so when we were visiting her mother she arranged to go to the local amphur with her mother to get a new one. Originally she thought she also needed the village headman to be present but this turned out not to be the case. She needed her ID card and as nellyp said the family book. When she was called however they also said she had to report the loss to the police and get an official letter from the police.

So off we went to the local police station and explaineed to the desk man who duly filled out a form and made up a story about how she lost it - and without charging us a bean. Back to the amphur and very quickly she had a copy of her original birth certificate. There was a very small charge but it was almost nothing - sorry I cannot remember the amount. Worth taking a couple of photocopies of her ID card as well.
