What Is Killing The Modern Airlines?

Last year I flew out of Mobile Alabama for $1059. Could have got it for $959 if I'd booked ten days later. This year fares just kept going UP. Some in the blink of an eye as availibility disappeared in minutes. Not been like this in the last four years. THIS year it finally settled in at $1325. Personally I think the airlines are just employing the thai model and when less fly, they raise the rates a lot. Probably also waiting last minute to add flights and NOT offering those flights at a reduced rate. I'd say ppl WANT to fly, and they KNOW it. Time was flying was an expensive option. I think maybe we are headed back that way. There ARE a lot of fees, etc. But here I don't think it's taxes so much as airlines nickel and diming you to death.
