I have not seen or heard from my wife and daughter for 3 years now. Do you think its possible to divorce her myself without several expensive (i was quoted 200,000B a year ago) court hearings..?

Desertion is 2 years right..? So i have those grounds.. can i just go myself..? My Thai is bordering on excellent.

I divorced my 1st wife in 2007 , after her coming to the Uk on a settlement visa, she returned to thailand on the pretext of doing merits at her temple , she went `missing` so I came back to Thailand and instigated divorce proceedings after 1 year, I did this through a Thai lawyer here in Bangkok, and the cost was Baht 40,000 hope this helps .

how hard have you looked for them?

Good point chunky...i bet you any money if you was to return to your wife's village that is where she would have left your daughter with her own mam to take care of .. that's the norm.

If you was quoted 200k might be worth a little trip to the village next time and could maybe offer some money for the x wife to sign a few paper .family would soon get in contact with her

then bingo who should turn up only around the corner your x misses.

I was lucky me my x misses only wanted her passport back so i give it to her only if she signed divorce papers .which i had to pay the sum of 40baht at the local ampher rolleyes.gif

I spent nearly every day for 11 months looking for them. Went EVERYWHERE.. one time i drove from Bkk to her "villiage" in Nakhon Panom.. the families old house wasn't even there anymore.. was told the wife's mother was in Phuket with her ferrang husband, so i drove there.. 2400km.. got there to be told she had been here but had moved to Hua hin (at least it was on the way home!!).. i spent 2 weeks driving EVERYWHERE in HH, and then found them.. living with her auntie and uncle.. spent 2 days there and parted on the promise of returning in 4 days.. all was looking up. 4 days later i arrived there and the whole family had moved.

Ive hired private investigators (pointless), contacted police and even had their photos on here.....

so yeah.. you could say i've looked quite hard.... Of course i know its a piece of piss if we both go to the local amphur office..

THAT"S WHY I WANTED TO KNOW HOW TO DO IT BY MYSELF

Also, check the various Catch-A-Farang dating and social sites for her siblings, family and friends. That other farang convinced his ex wife that he was some kind of Millionaire Astronaut back from Mars and got her to give him her address.

From my other post on this subject, I understand that 3yrs is the magic number, if there has been no contact. ie this is grounds for a divorce. But I think you have to go to a court,( and be represented by a lawyer)

This was also my experience from 1990 after 3 years of separation (spouse last seen/contact circa 1987). However, a lawyer is required since 30-days notice of intent to file for divorce on grounds of separation needs to be posted before proceeding to court. During this time, the lawyer makes efforts to track the errant partner down by whatever means they chose (I didn't ask). If there's no response, I think it's a court formality but we didn't have any children so that may require some other procedure or more extensive 'search' for the OP's case. Only a lawyer can advise on that count as I am nor sure how the Thai authorities approach child support issues or if it's even relevant.

For my trials and tribulations, my ex- witch did respond and hired her own lawyer (must have smelled money). However, after she missed two court dates and her lawyer stating that she hadn't even been paid yet, the judge ruled in my favour which led to partying for 40 days and 40 nights.... or so the maid reckoned.
