Zen Department renovation suspended

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Friday suspended the Zen Department renovation at the burned Central World, after six-floor-high scaffolding in the renovation area collapsed in morning.

The accident killed two male workers and injured six other men.

CPN says it will investigate cause of accident at Zen Department Store

The Central Pattana Plc announced Friday that it is now checking the cause of the accident at the Zen Department Store in which a renovation scaffold collapsed, killing two workers.

"We have been informed of an accident that occurred at around 09:30 a.m. (Friday, 29 October 2010) at the construction site of ZEN Department Store which is currently under construction and not opened to public access. Scaffoldings that were placed at one section of the construction site fell," the CPN said in a press statement.

"Unconfirmed reports indicate 2 dead and 6 injured (as at 11:30 a.m.). The injured were rushed to the Police Hospital where they are now receiving immediate medical attention. Family members of the injured can get updates at Police Hospital tel: 02 207 6000. Actions are also taken to inform relatives of the dead of the deceased."

It said it offered deepest condolences to those affected.

"We are now working with the authorities concerned to investigate the cause of the accident and will provide another update as soon as information is available," the statement said.
