Hi all,

Firstly apologises to the administrators if this post is in the wrong place but was not sure where to put. Its passport related but also regarding banking.

I am renewing my British passport at the Embassy in Hong Kong and in the section regarding payment they say you can either send a 'credit card authorisation form' or a bankers draft. Now I wont try the credit card as all I have is a Bangkok Bank visa/debit card and I have heard stories about that not being accepted so I am going to try the bankers draft.

So my question to anyone is has anyone done this recently and if so which bank did you use ? I only ask as on the website they mention that you have to make sure 'Standard Chartered' in Hong Kong accepts the bankers draft from the bank you are using.

Also how easy was it and the charge (if any) ?

Before I go running around the banks in Pattaya and battling with the usual language barrier, inconsistent rules and the famous 'cannot' and 'not have' lines etc etc I thought I would see if anyone here has any experience ?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

You might want to read Simon43 report in above thread (although Phuket rather than Pattaya).

Thanks for that link.

The story doesn't exactly fill me with confidence regarding the payment system but i have little choice as my card is a debit.

I would be interested though if anyone can confirm or not whether you can pay everything at BKK but send the application to HKG ?

Thanks

In that linked thread the OP reported (#5) that the UK Embassy in Bangkok no longer accept payments for passport renewals, but made an exception in his case as there was a problem with the bankers draft already in Hong Kong.

Looks like you need to try the bankers draft method, but make sure that the all printing is in the right boxes!
