Hi everyone,

I am 63 my wife is 55. We are UK residents.

We are coming for a 3 month holiday next January.

We will use Bangkok as a base while visiting Hong Kong, Vietnam etc.

My question is . . . we don't need a visa for a 30 day holiday . . . if we leave for Vietnam for example before the 30 days are up. Return for another 3 weeks to Bangkok and then leave again for Singapore, then come back for another 3 weeks etc. do we have to apply for a 90 day multiple entry visa? Because we are not actually in the country for more than any 30 day period.

Hope I have explained myself clearly.

Steady.................you/ll be able to do as Totster says providing you have onward tickets to wherever you go first within the first 30 days stay..........if you dont your carrier may refuse you boarding in England as one of the requirements for the 30 day visa exemption stamp is to have an onward ticket.

So you could book your first ticket while in England to Hong Kong or whichever destnation you intend to visit first then when you arrive in Thailand book your ticket to the second destination this will cover you when you board in Hong Kong to return to Thailand.............then when you come back to Thailand book your next ticket to Singapore........obviously when you come back to Thailand the final time your return ticket to England will cover you for boarding in Singapore.

Alternatively you could book all the tickets before leaving the UK..........the point i/m trying to make is you must have an onward ticket within for every entry into Thailand by air or you could face problems at checkin.

Hope that makes sense.

It does make sense to me :o Without either a visa or an onward airticket, the OP is unlikely to be uplifted from the UK to Thailand.

Ran out of time to edit post..............it should read "you must have an onward ticket for leaving Thailand within 30 days of every entry into Thailand by air.............."

Hmmm . . . the idea was . . . getting cheaper tickets to these various places because I was in Bangkok. Maybe on reflection getting a 90 day multiple entry visa might be better for peace of mind. And then I don't have to worry about anything. As I am doing all the organising I don't want my wife coming down on me like a ton of bricks. You get the picture. 8)

The most you would really need is a double entry tourist visa for the UK-Thailand entry and then the Vietnam-Thailand entry as you will have a ticket out within 30 days for the Singapore entry.

OK I think I get it.

Get a double entry visa.

I will have my Thai/UK return ticket.

Then I can book various trips when I arrive to other countries.

One other thing I forgot to mention. If we decide to extend our 3 month trip by say another couple of weeks can I apply for an extension.

I think thats it.

Thanks again.

I think you will find that the return ticket to England will cover the airline requirements.

The purpose of needing the outward bound ticket is in the event that the country (in this case Thailand) does not accept the passenger. Then the airline is liable for the cost of taking the "rejected passenger" out of the country, as they will have a return ticket, then the airline will not have to pay the costs, just debit the ticket.

If you have a valid visa, then the country you are entering already accepts you as a visitor which is why you can get on a plane with a one-way ticket with a visa.

Thanks for all your help it certainly opens your eyes when you are not on the usual "package holiday".

Now I have all the information I need.

Looking forward to the rest of the holiday planning.
