Hi all,

We have a friend visiting us on a normal tourist visa. I think it should be 28 days in total and about 15 days to go. Now he wants to stay longer and travel around for another 1 to 2 months.

What are the options? We went to immigration and they were asking 1.900 Baht for an extention of 5 days only! I guess there must be better options.

I have read a lot of post but it is fairly confusing if you are not familiar with it.

Thanks for helping and informing.

Seems they are here on a "Visa Exempt" entry, not a visa. Options are, exit and re-enter by land for a stay of 15 days, exit and enter by air and get a stay of 30 days, or go to a neighboring country and get a "Tourist Visa" and receive an entry of 60 days, that can be extended by another 30 days for 1900 Baht.

As said your friend does not have a Visa. That is why he could only get 7 days.

He needs to apply for a Tourist Visa at a Thai Consulate in a neighbouring country.

They are free at the moment.

Thanks,

Yes, indeed, they are here on a "visa on arrival" from Europe.

If they have to go abroad, what would be the best option? They stay in Chiang Mai right now but want to travel more to the south.

Thanks so much.

Vientiane is good for a double entry tourist visa, both of which can be extended by 30 days, so good for 60+30 and another 60 + 30. If only a single entry is needed I guess Phnom Phen will also be a good option.

They also do not have a "Visa on Arival" they have a "Visa Exempt Entry".

From Chiang Mai most people would go to Vientienne Laos. 1,500 Baht for the Visa to enter Laos. (can be got at the border).

If needed they can get a Double Entry Thai Tourist Visa free of charge.
