Two Bombs Reported as By-Election Approaches in Nakhon Ratchasima Province

As the by election in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima approaches, two bomb attacks have been reported near the homes of two election canvassers, but fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Chokchai district police in Nakhon Ratchasima province said two bombs were found near the houses of two election canvassers for the Pheu Thai Party, as the constituency six by-election is set to take place on December 12.

Police added that bomb experts managed to defused the bombs successfully and have prohibited people from going near the sites.

They believe the upcoming by-election in the province's constituency six could be the motivation for the bombs having been planted.

Meanwhile, one sub-district head in the province, Nam Plotkratok, said electoral candidates from the Pheu Thai and Bhum Jai Thai parties have already kicked off their electoral campaigns in the area.

However, most eligible voters are unaware that the by-election will take place soon.

Nam said he will launch a public relations campaign this week to encourage voters to exercise their rights.

Found near PTP canvasers houses.

Yet didnt go bang.

Someone trying to intimidate someone or to make someone look bad.

Either someones bomb making isnt up to the usual high standard or they were not ment to explode.

Either way its sad that anyone thinks they have to resort to bombings to win an election.

And this is only a by-election, what is likely to happen when the real thing comes along if those with that mindset are not cleaned out beforehand

Verbal salvo on by-election mudslinging

The Bhum Jai Thai Party on Thursday alleged the rival Pheu Thai Party of slinging mud at it before voicing suspicion that its rival's attack was a diversion for its buying of votes in Nakhon Ratchasima by-election.

Bhum Jai Thai MP Prajak Kaewklaharn said his party had no involvement in vote buying as claimed by Pheu Thai MP Chalerm Yoobamrung on Wednesday.

In his remarks, Chalerm cited a video clip uploaded in Youtube as reason to suspect foul play involving Bhum Jai Thai.

The clip depicted a large gathering of Nakhon Ratchasima vote canvassers at a seaside resort in Rayong.

By-Election in Nakorn Ratchasima

The competition for the MP post in Constituency 6 of Nakorn Ratchasima province is said to be at its peak as the election date approaches.

Meanwhile, there have already been reports of electoral violations.

Latest reports in Nakorn Ratchasima indicate that last minute campaigning for an upcoming by-election has been intense in Constituency 6 which spans across five districts including Chokechai, Nongboonmak, Chalerm-Prakiat, Jakratch, and Huay Talaeng.

The districts are crowded with campaign signs of various parties while campaign pick-up trucks roam the streets blaring campaign music and speeches rallying supporters.

The competition is said to be down to the top two candidates including Aphicha Lertphacharakamol of Pheu Thai Party and Boonjong Wongtrairat of Bhum Jai Thai Party.

As the election date of December 12 approaches, the candidates and their political supporters from both parties have visited many loyal voters.

While analysts say Apicha remains the underdog in this election, the Pheu Thai candidate doing his all to defy the odds for the crucial seat in the Northeast.

On the other hand, Boonjong is focusing on his past achievements when he was still an MP, inviting his voters to head to the polling stations early to cast their votes.

Meanwhile, there have already been three reports of possible violations of electoral rules during the campaign period.

The reports were filed by Pheu Thai Party candidate Apicha who claimed Boonjong is bribing voters and state officials.

The local electoral office has accepted the complaints and have vowed to report to the national Election Commission for further investigation.

Parties Making Last By-election Campaign Swing

With just two days left before the by election in five provinces, political parties are making a last-ditch effort to gain votes for their candidates.

In the northeastern province of Surin, Pheu Thai Party candidate Pathida Tantirattananon and Bhum Jai Thai Party candidate Supparak Kuanha are going out of their way to be seen in the public to drum up support in anticipation of the upcoming by-election this Sunday.

The provincial Election Commission will arrange a stage for all candidates to take turns to address audiences in their electoral campaign tonight in an effort to woo voters in the upcoming by-election.

The atmosphere for the by-election campaign is also active in Khon Khaen where there are two candidates in Khon Kaen's Constituency 2 by-election.

The Democrat Party is nominating Athipprat Thadpityangkoon as candidate no. 1, while Pheu Thai Party is sending Preechapol Pongpanich who is running as candidate no. 2.

Key figures from the Democrat Party, including Wittaya Kaewparadai, Chamni Sakdiset, and Suthat Ngoenmuen today met with villagers in Ban Phai district to drum up votes for their party's candidate.

The Pheu Thai Party candidate and his campaign team visited local people in many areas.

Now why does that statement make me think about the subject of vote buying?

disqualified MPs are:

Preechaphol Pongpanit from Pheu Thai Party

It's a shame that 27 year-old Preechaphol was disqualified as MP for Khon Kaen. I understand he was making real in-roads on understanding the poor in his rural Northeastern constituency whilst indulging his favorite activity, driving around Bangkok in his new Mercedes coupe.

whoweeklymagazinecom200.jpgpp3d.jpgpp1lj.jpg

Still, he's no newcomer to adversity as, after all, he took over his position after his father, Sermsak (a Cabinet Minister in Thaksin's regime) was banned from politics for participating in electoral fraud.

Now THAT is a funny post. Thanks Buchholz!

Right ... they are joking, aren't they?

Let's ignore the fact that she is probably completely unqualified to be an MP. We'll endorse her 'to avoid controversy'.

I am not a close follower of Thai electoral politics, but ejecting all unqualified MPs would result in lack of a quorum.

You're welcome and now with his election victory yesterday, Preechaphol can return to Bangkok and cruise in his Mercedes coupe while contemplating the needs of his poor rural constituents in Khon Kaen.

Additionally, the Pongpanit family can maintain their dynasty after both father and son have been disqualified.

EC holds off endorsing two by-election winners

The Election Commission yesterday delayed endorsement of Bhum Jai Thai Party's Boonjong Wongtrairat and Pheu Thai Party's Preechapol Pongpanit, who were among the winners in by-elections held recently in five provinces.

The EC is investigating poll fraud complaints to determine if they won the votes honestly.

The commission has already endorsed the other three winners - Chart Thai Pattana's Kuakul Danchaiwichit from Ayutthaya's Constituency 1, Bhum Jai Thai's Suparak Khuanha from Surin's Constituency 3, and Democrat Apirak Kosayothin in Bangkok's Constituency 2.

EC secretary-general Suthiphon Thaveechaiygarn said yesterday the commission had opted not to endorse Boonjong and Preechapol - who won in Nakhon Ratchasima's Constituency 6 and Khon Kaen's Constituency 2 respectively - as they were accused of poll fraud.

The law requires that election winners get endorsed within 30 days of an election, and the EC would do so before the deadline and disqualify them later if there was enough evidence, Suthiphon said.

Gee... electoral fraud... just like his dear old Dad.

Coalition parties win four of five by-election constituencies

BANGKOK, Dec 13 -- Thailand's ruling Democrat Party and its coalition partners -- Bhumjaithai, Chart Thai Pattana -- won seats in four of the five constituencies in by-election on Sunday while opposition Puea Thai party retain their post in the northeastern province of Khon Kaen.

Preechaphol Pongpanich of the Puea Thai party was the only opposition candidate to win, claiming 143,700 votes in Khon Kaen's Constituency 2

The other information coming from the Election Commission today was that apparently Preechaphol was a tad bit loose with his claimed numbers.

The actual official vote total for him released today was 86,599.... but hey, why trifle over it... he's only 56,000 votes off.

Perhaps he meant he was billed for 143,000 votes.

About 37,000 voted for the Democrat Party candidate, up from about 3,500 that voted Democrat when his subsequently-banned Dad ran.

Quite a large increase for the Democrats. I wonder how that will play out over the closer PTP seats.
