NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- Rapper Lil Wayne on Thursday was released from Rikers Island prison in New York City after serving eight months of his 12-month prison term.

According to MTV News, Young Money President Mack Maine revealed that Lil Wayne would celebrate his homecoming with a party Sunday at a Miami strip club.

Maine said Wayne's friends plan to "just treat him like a king, like the royalty that he is and make him feel like we really missed him and welcome him back to the family, basically."

It was also hinted that Wayne, who kept working on his music during his prison time, could make a special appearance in Drake's Las Vegas concert scheduled this Saturday.

Dwayne Carter Jr., 28, popularly known in the music industry as Lil Wayne, was sentenced to 12 months in prison last March after pleading guilty. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and marijuana.

Following a performance at the Beacon Theater on July 22, 2007, the New York City Police Department saw Lil Wayne and another individual smoking marijuana outside his tour bus. Officers later discovered a .40 caliber pistol in the rapper's possession.
