KPTV political analyst Tim Hibbitts made the projection on Thursday, calling the race for Murray. As of late Thursday afternoon, with 78 percent of precincts reporting, Murray had a total of 925,145 votes - or 51 percent. Her Republican challenger, Dino Rossi, had 878,572 votes (49 percent). Murray's victory will give Democrats a total of 53 seats in the U.S. Senate, a majority. Washington's U.S. Senate race was one of two races that remained undecided after Tuesday's mid-term elections. The last U.S. Senate race which remains undecided is in Alaska.
