New 3,000 Jewish homes for Jerusalem in 2011

2010-11-14 11:26:29 GMT+7 (ICT)

JERUSALEM (BNO NEWS) -- Nearly 3,000 new homes will be offered for sale in 2011 in four neighborhoods of Jerusalem, including in Arab areas, the weekly Israeli newspaper Kol Hair reported.

According to the weekly, Shlomo Eshkol, an engineer appointed by the municipality, said that 3,000 new homes will be available in 2011, and at least 50,000 during the next decade.

Eshkol, who gave no details about the project, made the remarks before a group of about 60 Israeli developers and the mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat.

The homes would be available in west Jerusalem's Jewish neighborhoods of Arnona and Ramat Rachel, as well as the east Jerusalem districts of Givat Hamatos and Har Homa.

Israel does not consider construction in East Jerusalem to be settlement activity despite international refusal to recognize East Jerusalem as part of Israeli territory.

The Palestinians want to make the east the capital of their future state.
