I'm normally a compassionate person, but with street children it's a classic case of giving being the creator of a problem, not a solution. If 100% of people simply ignored them the problem would go away and only those who exploit them would lose out. Many orphanages need your money much more than the exploiters do.

Nothing new there I know and apologies if already said on page 1.

I have lived and worked in Thailand for 5 years. The more that I know about Thailand the less I like it here. Why is Thailand such a morally bankrupt place? Right from the top; politicians, army generals, the police, immigration and the way that they treat refugees, street kids, tourist scams and rip offs, under paid workers, child protitution, human trafficking, daughters sent to Pattay and Phuket to sell their bodies,( the whole tourist market is centered around young prostitutes) mafia this mafia that, corruption etc. - I could go on but it is depressing. Why is Thailand so morally bankrupt when there are so many nice decent people here?

Thanks for all the words of wisdom. I really appreciate it! The Mercy Centre was a great lead and they are going to help me figure out how to help Jamilla. I realize I cannot change everything but hopefully I can gain some insight on the reality of Street kids in Bangkok.

If you wish to gain some insight into the realities of these street kids and watch their effin scum handlers, minders, owners or whatever other name they go by in action try the following.

Go to the Dynasty Inn on Suk soi 4, any time after 7pm, its on your left hand side just after the enterance to the Nana Plaza, take a seat at the outside bar and order a drink.

You will observe about 5 or 6 of these urchins in action, look over in front of you on the opposite side off the road to the right hand side, right next to the internet shop is a travel agent, the handlers of these kids are usually sat there, at least 2 women and one man, all middle aged, hard to tell they could be older.

These scum can been seen passing the time away eating and drinking, every so often the children will be called over to deposit whatever money they have earned then sent back on their way.

These kids and their handlers seem to operate with impunity, and will be in action til well after midnight.

Last year I and others watched one of these kids being knocked down by a taxi as the kid ran out into the road without looking, taxi sped off of course.

My mrs was so disgusted she walked down to the police box at the corner of soi 4 to complain, total disinterest, she was given one of those 11XX numbers and told to call that if she had any issues, wife called, nothing happened, called again nothing happened.

Its pretty hard banging your head against someone elses wall.

What would you think if you found out that her name was not really Jamilla ?? What that alter anything for you ??

Doesn't matter what her name is, she just want to help her.

Yes she does & that's wonderful..

In fact, if ther were more people who thought like she does on this Planet, then the World would probably be a better place..:)

But it does matter, in my opinion, what her name is & i say that because i know ( & you do to probably ) that her name isn't Jamilla & i also say that because the Kid not even telling the truth when saying her name, is soemthing to think about when talking about possible adoption..

The World is not nice, it's not all Flowers & Fairies, the brutal truth is that the Kid is just a statistic in a sordid, horrid cycle of BKK & SE Asian Street Kids, pushed into it by Parents/Owners who have little or no respect for life itself nor the Kids..

This IS the Third World, no matter what anyone says & the Street Kids prove it, they're Parents/Owners prove it too..

Thsi shouldn't just be about " Jamilla " if the OP REALLY wants to do something good, it's a MUCH bigger picture than just " Jamilla "..

I agree with much of what you say, but I don't think the whole tourist market is centered around prostitutes. Not literally obviously, but not even close IMO. Look at any planeload from farangland - high content of couples, families and backpackers. Don't forget all those Chinese and Korean pesnioners also. I would be surprised if any more than one or two percent of tourists (5% max) have paid for sex.

Edit: We should be told: perhaps the Immigration authorities can add a check box to the inside bit of the Arrivals/Departure card. Reason for visit ....... paid-for sex ... check.

Point taken that there are plenty of tourist attractions and beautiful places in Thailand that don't involve the world's oldest profession, but most tourist areas have this kind of tourist attraction to some extent, but the point that I was trying to make is that this seems to be, a very selfish, greedy and dishonest society where everyone is out for number one and the he_l with the consequences. Not really what I expected and I do mean not mean the people of Thailand, but rather the way it's authorities and business's conduct themselves at the expense of poor. The street children and poor old women sleeping with young children on a dirty old sheet every 200m on Suk is distressing to see in such a wealthy, modern city. And now that I have found out that I really am that naive to think that these were genuinely poor people and not part of some organized crime! My opinion goes down even further........

Oh fck me. Just watch 'Leon'. Street kids are very streetsmart.

Warning signs:

2. Jamilla is an Indian name
