Five killed in motorcycle crash in southern California

2010-11-14 14:34:27 GMT+7 (ICT)

LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) -- A crash involving seven motorcycles left five people killed in a small town near the U.S.-Mexican border on Saturday, the California Highway Patrol(CHP) said.

The accident occurred on a free way near Ocotillo in Imperial County, CHP spokesman Officer Pablo Torrez said.

Four of the dead belonged to a Lakeside motorcycle club called the Saddle Tramps, who where celebrating its 10th anniversary with a ride across the desert.

According to the CHP, a Honda Accord revved up behind them and tried to pass, and a white Dodge Avenger coming from the opposite direction swerved to avoid the oncoming car, lost control and crashed into the pack of motorcycles. Then the Honda sped off.

The collision killed four motorcyclists and the passenger of the Avenger, the CHP said. According to witnesses, the Honda driver was a man wearing a baseball cap.

Seven motorcycles and only five dead? Amateurs.

In SEA you could rack up that kind of number with one scooter on an other wise empty road.

I wonder if any of the surviving bikers recall the Honda or was it the Avenger just out of control! Bit lame to describe the guy in the Honda wearing a 'cap'. Sad for the bikers at any rate.

This qualifies as world news ?

It seems a pretty small world to me if the O.P. is the most important news item coming in from around the world.
