Bomb Thrown At Bangkok Mini Bus Kills At Least One, Injures Many

Irrespective of who is responsible-this is lunacy. If someone has a problem with government, then target government, if the problem with army, then attack the army.

How are the people on the bus responsible for anything?

Perhaps someone on the bus was the target, I wouldn't assume that someone with a problem with the government would attack a public bus.

Even if it is so, still does not justify the bomb. If target is 1 person then you shoot him, you do not blow up the whole bus with other people.

Public bus is there for the people, the only connection to the government is that government owns it. Bus does not make laws or enforces them. There is no excuse or justification for any terrorist attack irrespective of the cause.

If the vehicle was from a factory or business then it could be a revenge against a company ... unless they were all Muslims and the motivation religious.

it was a regular bus, no 27, not a private - so there were budhists, muslim etc.

police follow high school student's fight - quite common in bangkok

I highly doubt it was a Muslim issue. They have no reason to move there theater of operations into Bangkok. They do not have the man power for a concerted attack there. As for the victims being different religions. That makes no difference to a Muslim. As for it being political well with the red shirts being willing to let there poor members stay in jail why would they not treat the poor on the out side the same. Maybe I am reading some thing in to it but ever sense The red shirts treason was put down there seems to be a lot of these things happening. How about the misfired blast that killed the bomb maker who had red shirt ties. Just some thing to think on.

Truth be known we will probably never know.

The Reds deny any involvement and have accused the authorities of a plot to justify tougher security powers.

Again, while they may not be responsible for this particular bombing, there is a whole slew of Reds admitting to various bombing involvement in this thread,

Thailand's Fragile Peace Threatened Bomb Attack

which contradicts the quote that is describing a denial by them in any bombing, not only today's episode.

I have no struggle to undertstand the sentence -- its meaning is quite clear. However, the sentence, within the context of the article, in no manner refers to the bus bomb/grenade incident today.

Either you are deperately trolling or you genuinely need to take remedial reading -- read the entire article, slowly and in sequence!

Are you joking? what incident is it referring to? the shooting of a boy? What incident is this press release about? Please stop the insanityblink.gif

If you truly do not undertand the entire article, you have my sincere sympathy --- however, I believe your statements are merely an attempt to inflame and troll -- I will not continue to be your entertainment for the evening.

Although Bangkok has been rattled by a number of minor blasts since rallies by anti-government protesters in April and May, it was not clear if the latest incident, at around 5pm (1000 GMT), was politically motivated.

"We still don't know if it was a conflict between students or something else. Someone threw a grenade on to a minibus," Police Lieutenant Colonel Montri Kongjumpa, of eastern Min Buri district's police station, told AFP.

"We're now waiting for the explosive specialists to investigate the scene, but initially there is one person dead and eight injured," he added.

The Reds deny any involvement and have accused the authorities of a plot to justify tougher security powers.

I love that part. Government and police do not know any details as yet, but the REDS already blaming the government

Nobody, including the reds, have directed any blame for this tragedy -- stop trying to troll for responses by taking one section of an article totally out of context.

Say something constructive, like " our best wishes to the family of the deceased and to the injured for a speedy recovery ".

It saddens me that innocents on the bus died, but why extend best wishes? Are the victims and their families on this board? Is that what this website is about? Extending condolences to people who will never read them? That's constructive? Give me a break.

I don't think George is twisting anything. Is it not what it the news said, that the Reds are blaming the government. That's true. That's their schtick.

 Are you saying that there's no violence in Canada and Norway? I doubt it!

Like most countries of this planet, Thailand is violent, that's it.

We have to accept that.

If we do not want violence, we have to go to... Canada? Norway?

I thought that no grenade could explode in these countries but if I'm wrong, it means that Thailand is violent like ALL the countries of this planet. Only a few nostalgic farang still think that we are in the Paradise on Earth.

Update:

Grenade explosion on Bangkok bus kills one

2010-11-15 19:57:10 GMT+7 (ICT)

BANGKOK, THAILAND (BNO NEWS) -- At least one person was killed and several others were killed after a grenade was thrown at a mini bus in the outskirts of the Thai capital of Bangkok, local authorities said Monday.

At around 5 p.m. local time, two men riding a motorcycle approached a Number 27 bus in the Min Buri district, but it is still uncertain why the individuals attacked the bus. While one individual died immediately, the injured were rushed to a local hospital.

The local police chief said it could have been an act of vengeance, but anti-government rallies have surrounded the Thai capital in the past several weeks with the "Red Shirt" movement, which also could have motivated the attack.

Local authorities are currently investigating the incident.

This is very far from where the young boy was killed on a bus in a dispute between students. There are a lot of schools in the area and this sounds much more like a school-related bombing or some other personal conflict.

It doesn't really fit the MO of either side of the great divide. A mini-bus isn't the same as the subway and it's hardly a symbol of the government.

It's not too far from where I live, not that that makes me an expert.

If it is related to a school feud, then it is just as worrying to think that school kids, even older teenagers, have access to handgrenades that they can casually toss into a crowded bus with little apparent thought for the consequences, other than their pride and "Face" achieved by maiming someone wearing the wrong uniform.

I would like to think / hope this would cause a genuine uproar in a civilised country......

It isn't completely unlikely at all. There was a fatal shooting after a fight between technical colleges only 2 months ago.

If this is a school war, it will be tomorrows newspaper.

Canada? Is that the place where some idiot killed 49 women, then fed them to his pigs. Or maybe it was on highway 16 that is called the "highway of tears", because so many dead bodies have been found murdered along the route. There is no country immune from violence. Don't know about Norway so won't comment.

The 27 route is an "ekachon" i.e. concession route, that is run by private operators who hold a government concession. It could possibly be a dispute between companies as to who should have so many buses on that route/hold the concession etc. Pure speculation but it is not a BMTA bus.

Assailants hurl explosive into Bangkok minibus; 1 dead, 8 wounded

BANGKOK, Nov 15 - Three young men on Monday threw a grenade into a minibus traveling its route in suburban Bangkok, killing one passenger at the scene and wounding a number of other riders.

The dead man was identified as Pichet Chaiya, 26, a technician at a Nissan car centre. His body was found in the back seat of a minibus No. 27 Victory Monument-Minburi route.

Eight other passengers including a 15-year-old student of Minburi Technical College were wounded in the explosion. They were sent to nearby Navaminthra 9 Hospital

The bus driver told police that five students entered the bus when he picked up passengers at the Bueng Kum district office bus stop. He heard an explosion but at the time he thought the bus tire was blown up.

Natthaporn Chomdee, girlfriend of the victim, said she boarded the bus with Mr Pichet but sat separately.

When the bomb exploded, she found that her boyfriend died instantly at the scene.

Police said closed circuit television in the area have captured images of the three suspects, but said they believed the incident was a revenge on rival technical college students. (MCOT online news)

"Although Bangkok has been rattled by a number of minor blasts since rallies by anti-government protesters in April and May, " - can you explain this comment too.have the bomb blasts been "claimed" by any one particular body? or were they anonymous

A number of recent bombings have resulted in a number of Red Shirts arrested:

Thailand's Fragile Peace Threatened, Bomb Attack

http://www.thaivisa....eace-threatened

Another Red Shirt was responsible for this bomb:

At Least Three Dead In Bomb Blast At Bangkok Apartment Building

http://www.thaivisa....rtment-building

A Pheu Thai Party employee was responsible for this one:

Rocket Launcher, Ammo Found In Bangkok

http://www.thaivisa....-bangkok-police

But that's not to say they are involved in this particular bombing.

.

your post appears to be a pretty good example of a false syllogism.

The situation in Thailand is complex and bad enough as it is without your constant irrelevancies.

Secondly - who says this was a bomb? Is it universally accepted already that this is in fact what happened - has any group claimed responsibility?

Are you suggesting it was nothing more than a firecracker? If a device targeted at someone/something explodes, then it is a "bomb".

Why do you need clarification other than the fact that a person died and several others were injured?

The classification of the device as a "bomb" is irrelevant, what matters more is the reason behind such a mindless attack, and how those responsible can be brought to justice!

looks more like a clandestine fight. The whole political instability has turned to criminal activities countrywide, it's a logical consequence. Both sides of the rope are to blame. People are fed-up.

We only read and hear to protect the gov and places but not the people as a whole and who are becoming more and more the target of these lower than animals creatures. Sad. so sad.

Condolences to the family of the victims and the injured and lets hope together that this will be the last incident of this kind of nature. The odds are not very good though, but there's always hope.

So now these uneducated students are involving innocent people in their deadly fights!! Hope the police will be willing to react accordingly. This has been going on for too long!

"uneducated students" - and to complete the stream of nonsense...an oxymoron!

Again some very wooly thinking - typical of so many posts on TV nowadays.

PS - Why are you suggesting it was an attack?
