Emergency rule in Bangkok to be lifted by New Year

By The Nation

The state of emergency in Bangkok and surrounding areas will likely be lifted before the New Year holiday, National Security Council secretary general Thawil Pliensri said on Tuesday.

"The situation no longer warrants emergency rule," he said.

Thawil said the security authorities will make a final assessment on threats after the planned rally by the red shirts on Friday.

The rally is to mark the six-month rememberance of the killing of pro-red Army officier Maj General Khattiay "Seh Daeng" Sawasdipol.

The mandate for imposing the state of emergency is scheduled to expire on January 4.

Arrest Warrants Out for 2 in Court Clips Case

The Criminal Court has approved arrest warrants for two suspects behind the release of controversial video clips of Constitution Court judges.

The Criminal Court has approved arrest warrants against Pasit Sakdanarong, former secretary of the Constitution Court president, and Constitution Court official Chutima Sansinrungsri, for disclosing classified state information and violation of the 2007 Computer Act, as requested by investigators from the Crime Suppression Division.

The two were suspected of releasing video clips of some Constitution Court judges accusing a Democrat MP, who is also a member of the party's legal team fighting the party dissolution case, of attempting to lobby Pasit, then personal secretary of Constitution Court President Chat Cholaworn, to help in the case.

Prior to today's approval of the arrest warrants, Constitution Court judges filed a criminal complaint over the release of the clips with the Crime Suppression Police Division.
