Been To Uk Embassy

Featured Replies

Hi all, I took all the relevant doccuments to the British Embassy today and was just wondering what happens next? For some reason they are not letting boyfriends, husbands ect in the visa section, only the applicant. And the wife went alone and went blank and never thought to ask any questions :o They did however give me a piece of paper stating we would be contacted in 5-10 days, and then either a full or short interview is required. How do they determine who gets a full and who gets a short interview? I understand a short one is the quicker of the two? As it says 12-14 weeks for a full interview date. I suppose I will just have to wait for the letter to come through. Has anyone here had either the short or the full interview? And If so what do they ask? I want to be ready!

Bang...

Bang, if you look at the post, Visa Success - Chuffed by IvanLaw, yesterday. Ivans wife went for the full interview yesterday and Ivan has posted the type of questions his wife got asked. 28 of them i think it was but they could aske more or less. I don't know how they determine who gets the short or long one though.

MrBoJ

Hi Ben,

Whether an applicant is given a long or short interview is determined by the standard of the supporting documentation which has been submitted and by the visa officer's general "feel" for the application. If, after having considered the application on the basis of the documents provided, the visa officer is inclined to issue a visa, then a short interview will be allocated. This consists of a few general questions. The alternative is the long interview which is more detailed but does not necessarily mean that the visa officer is looking to refuse the application; just that a decision can't immediately be made.

Hi, just to add on this subject the wife had a phone call from the embassy today (day after submitting the forms and documentation) They asked her whether this was the first time she had been to the embassy? Not sure if they meant had she dropped the documentation off from a previous aplication or whether they were just suprised at the amount of information there was. The cashier did have to get up and walk out of her booth to collect it, as it was too thick to slide under the pass tray. Also what is the stamp for that they put in the back of her passport?

UK 10-8-05

BANGKOK

Just be interested to know.

Bang.........

Hi Ben,

The stamp in the back of the passport is to indicate that a visa has been applied for. Should the unthinkable happen and the visa be refused, the date will be underlined to show refusal.

I will be hoping this doesn't get underlined then! Any thoughts on the phone call?

Just a guess Bang, but probably just to clear something up that you might have missed on the application. My wife didn't get any calls to clear up little things like that . The only call she had was the one giving her the interview date.

MrBoJ

someone I know just came down to apply for a visa for his wife and it was approved within 3 weeks. Interview date was set 2 weeks from submission date. They are in UK now.

They had a strong genuine case though, known each other for 3 years, married 1 year. All documentary proof was presented and everything went without a hitch.

Good luck to you!!

Mr boJ,

When is your interview date? Are you in LOS with her? And are you set for it?

Bang....

Our date is end of Sept. We applied in May and i was with her, although i don't think this makes any difference really. Since then i came back for work. However, when we got the interview date it was a 16 week wait, we couldn't wait that long to see each other again so i went back a few weeks ago. An extra expense and time out from work that i could have done without but what can you do. I am now back in the UK, waiting. :D As for "am i set for it", i hope so. I have a very good job in the UK, a nice house which i own and got all the paper work etc. etc. However, if the visa is refused i'm prepared to just drop it all, leave work, rent out the house and go back to LOS while we appeal. Although i telephone her every single day, we miss each other like mad. :o So, we have promised each other, that we will have to be patient and wait for the interview, but after that we are never going to be apart again, visa success or not. Sorry to be all slushy but i've just been talking to her on the phone for the last hour.

was in the same position as yourself in August last year, wife expecting baby in October, filled in settlement form paid the 18000 baht to Embassy and was told interview will be in December, I asked for money back, as wife would have had baby by then, Embassy said come back in the afternoon and she got visa same day, at airport told them she was 6 months pregnant that ok, Tip get health letter from where your wife goes for check ups saying she does not have TB, Elephantitis, 3rd stage syphilis I forget the others, and she shows letter at immigration at UK airport and does not have to be examined at airport.

Really, didn't know about that

.... we couldn't wait that long to see each other again... we miss each other like mad.....we are never going to be apart again.....

Aaaaaaaaaah, isn't it sweet? :o:D

As for Ben's phone call, the only thing I can think of is they've run checks (as they do on every applicant) and a previous one has either an identical or similar name and d.o.b.
