While getting a foot massage the other day, the ladies were screaming at every falang going by with their usual," Massage!... Handsum man!!!, etc. As I was chuckling to myself about the standard "Handsum Man" call, the lady massaging my feet looked up at me and said " You were handsum man BEFORE!!! Now you are old!""

Goes to prove that honest women ARE out there.:annoyed::unsure:

Thai women do have a habit of pointing things out such as "you have a spot" or "you have a big nose" or "you are fat", there is no conscience here :D

they are doing this because they are not interested in u.

they wont be doing this if u look really rich.

no conscience?

Stating the obvious should not create issues with people.

Bunta are you sure she isn't only half honest.....fibs about the first part but is honest about you being old?

Regardless of her intent this gal was hilarious. We both laughed a long, long time. The kind of laughter that feels soo good...

With Thai society being as it is I find some of the most honest people in Thailand are the bar girls, Why? Well they don’t exactly fit into the way the Thais want to be portrayed or seen by the outside world….do they. The girls can’t hide behind some Thai bullshit cover story about what they do. Could they make themselves look any worse to you the punter by being honest sometimes? Sometimes, just sometimes they turn the meter off. I’ve had some very honest conversations with “ladies of the night” when for whatever reason we have each decided, (for whatever reason) “I’m not the one” and there’s no trade about. I’ve found it interesting that this honesty is not always directed at me, an example me being told; you’re old, fat, drunk and stink of fish! (don’t ask) But just sometimes the honesty from these girls is genuine, even detrimental to their line of work. They will tell you things, sometimes sad, sometimes funny, stories of their life and how they live. You can tell the things they say are not being told to make you feel sorry for them or turned on so you will rent them for the night. (no sick buffalo storys)

As far as honesty go’s if those westerners who use the bar girls and then slag them off for being beneath them, were half as honest as some of these working girls then places like Pattaya would be a better place.

Just for the record I’ve never felt the urge to save, wai, or buy a bar girls colored water at exorbitant prices all night.

As far as honest Thais from other walks of life, well its mixed bag, I think in most cases due to face saving, cultural differences and the possibility of, if not now but later screwing up an opportunity to make money from you, they stay mum! Are Westerners any different?

Didn't mean anything by that....Thais are some of the most natural and human people there are. Not often they laugh at you only with you.

I just get tired of hearing within 30 minutes how their husband died in a motorbike accident, child has just had an accident and needs hospital care etc. when having my hair cut or chatting to the owner of the establishment after a massage etc. etc.

It makes me feel uncomfortable as I don't believe them and am pretty sure they are just looking for a big tip :(.

If they really were going through dire times, surely the last person they would tell is a stranger?

Was she looking at your feet or your face.

I say to my wife sometimes OK I'm ready to go, how do I look she says " Ugly " then I hold my wallet up in front of my face and say how about now , she say Oh !! Yes. Very, very handsome indeed.

You think it's more funny to hear rich people bragging for hours about their money, their influential friends in government, their ho so smart kids and their brand new Benz ?

You at least have the option to shut them down with a big tip ....

I hear that!

Funny thing, my wife’s always said the best thing about me is my wallet, cheeky mare! I like the way her honesty improves, the nice shirt I’m wearing or how good I smell when where going out of the door for a trip to big shopping centre.

The truly rich people I know don't behave this way. It's odd really that I've finally realised that they have the same problems as the rest of us (and that's what they talk about) - without the financial worries.

Yeah, they are human being too :D

And like the rest of us, there are the god ones, the bad ones, the entertaining ones, the boring ones ....

As a bench mark, on the have and the wanna be seen to haves, if you want to know if all that gobbing off about having money is bullshit a good indication in farang land is to look at their car, not the make or model, more to the point, how clean is it? Most people with big money drive expensive cars, but they treat them like shit, there minging most of the time, they use them as a tool not a status symbol. Were as if it spotlessly clean the owner is more then not full of it, he see his car as an extension of the image he wants to portray. It’s just an observation.

Please note: For all who add 2+2 and come up with 5. I’m not talking about people who like excessive cars, keep them clean….and don’t gob off about being loaded!

Rich people in Bangkok don't drive their car, they have drivers.

A diver's job is very boring, you spend you time waiting to be called. So you clean the car while waiting. And some drivers get a fixation about cleaning the car.

So a spotlessly clean car says more about the psychology of the driver than about the owner's ....

Beside everybody has a spotless car in Asia (not only in Bangkok). As the beginning I didn't really care then I got embarrassed always seeing my car standing out as the only dirty one in the car park lot

So now everytime it's available, I use the car park cleaning service (unfortunately I don't have a driver) , it's not really more expensive, and my car is clean and I can melt in the total anonymity that I cherish.

You right JurgenG

In my original draft, (I have to do a draft on word, my spelling is very bad) I did write, “not applicable in Asia! That cut didn’t make it to the board. As for rich people cleaning cars………………..Maybe old vintage motors, but not the Benz! If it’s for business OK yes it will be clean, but not by the guy sat in the back. I’m taking about the guy you might meet in the pub, who tells you he loaded.

I was getting a back massage the other day, and when the lady pulled my shorts down a little bit to get at the lower back, she hollered out "what a white ass." Everyone got a good laugh at my expense.
