Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

I got a tourist visa stamped in my passport on arrival in September that was for 30 days.

I just looked on the visa page that said a tourist visa is good for 60 days.

Have I missed something?

How to get the 2 month visa?

You received a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp upon arrival. You apply for a tourist visa at any Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate. A tourist visa is good for a total of 90 days, 60 days upon arrival plus a 30 day extension available from immigration for 1900 baht.

If you have an actual Tourist Visa you should have been stamped permitted to stay for 60 days. Did you write the visa number on the arrival/departure card when you entered Thailand? It's possible the immigration officer didn't see the visa and stamped you in as a "Visa Exempt" entry.

If you don't have a visa, you would need to exit and make another entry, by land 15 days, by air 30 days for "visa exempt' entries, if you get a Tourist Visa you would be stamped in for 60 days, and that could be exended for another 30 days for 1900 Baht.

Ahh, my mistake.

So, I go to the Thai consulate to get my 60 day visa. OK. :)

Hmm, actually I am still just about married to a Thai :) but we are best of friends.

If I get the 60 day visa in Japan (where I am) when in Thailand can I switch over to another visa? Or is there a better way for me to stay longer?

Basically I am looking for the cheapest way to stay in the country for at least 2 months but keeping my options open for possibly up to 4 months.

The easiest way, given the details provided, is to get a double entry tourist visa. That would allow a maximum stay in Thailand of up to 180 days, (60 + 30 days) border run (60 + 30 days).

Japan is not the easiest location to obtain visas for Thailand if you are not Japanese. I seriously doubt they would issue a double entry. But getting another tourist visa by going to Vientiane or other local location is always an option to extend a stay longer.
